Fr Ignatius D'Souza (77), retired priest of Mangalore diocese, passed away in a private hospital on November 20, 2007.

Funeral service will be held in St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia, Mangalore at 3-30 pm on Thursday, November 22.

Born in Moodubelle, Udupi on December 21, 1930, he was ordained a priest on December 3, 1963. He served as assistant parish priest in Kinnigoli and Cascia and later as parish priest in Pavoor, Sampaje, Nidpalli, Allipade and Miyar.

Later he served as chaplain at Father Muller Charitable Institutions from 1993 until retirement in 2003. Thereafter he lived in Vianney Home, the residence of retired priests.

I recall my association of three years with Fr. Ignatius, arround 22 years ago. Besides being a faithful servant of God he lived a life of a true Catholic Preist. Even at his Old Age, when I thought that his memory would fail to recognise me whom he had seen alomost 18 years back. But I was wrong, when he called me by name. I remember his hard working nature. I have seen him drawing water from the well and attending to other domestic chores. His life of simplicity was a inspiration to many who came in touch with him and I was one of them, I am proud to say.

I enjoyed those unforgettable moments when he took me on his favourite pastime - Hunting. And especially those post hunting times when he shared those delicacies of those huntings. Certainly Fr. Ignatius will be rememnered for his services for the Mangalore Diocese and to people of God and above all for being a good human being. Also He was a Saintely Priest who had much love for the poor and needy. He was also concerned and loved His brother Priest when they were in probelemes. May His soul rest in Peace.
