At the age of 96, John Timothy Pinto, beloved father, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024 in Monterey, CA.   He was preceded by his wife of 66 years, Teresa Isabella (née Saldanha) whom he missed dearly.   He is survived by his three daughters, two sons-in-law, and four grandchildren.   He was immensely proud of his grandchildren for their choice of service careers.   He lived a long and fulfilled life of many accomplishments.

Born to Lawrence and Ignatia (née Pinto), John graduated from St. Aloysius College in Mangalore and certified in automotive engineering in Chennai.   He worked internationally and moved his family to Toronto in the 1970s.   In a second career started in Canada, he became recognized as a leader in logistics and distribution management.   His career culminated in directing relief efforts to Afghanistan from donor countries though the UN World Food Program.

John was devoted to his birth family, the family he created, and the friends who became family.    John was generous with his knowledge and with Teresa, helped many establish themselves in Canada.   Together, they helped build the fledgling Mangalorean community in Toronto of the 70s.

John’s generous spirit, optimistic nature and warm personality were his trademarks.   He was appreciated for his kindness, insightful mind and humour.   John loved fishing, gardening, and staying current with world affairs.
