Fr Ignatius D'Costa (83), retired priest from the Diocese of Chikmagalur, who was presently residing at his residence at Neerude, Mangalore, passed away on January 31, 2022.

Mortal remains will be brought to St Roque Church, Neerude, Mangalore, on Thursday, February 3, at 9:30 am for the people to pay their last respects. The Eucharistic celebration will be held at 10:30 am. Thereafter, he will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery, Neerude.

It’s indeed sad to hear demise of great priest warrior Fr I Dcosta famously called as Costa Padri of Neerude. It is worth to mention that he is maiden priest from Neerude that later gave famous priests and nuns from Neerude to the world. He was great help to family to when his brother Ligory passed away at young age leaving 5 little children . Today Raja will miss his favorite Bappu during his upbringing was solely revolved around him. Special mention to Paul uncle and Maggi Bai and their kids . They took care of him for the last 10 odd years of Fr I Dcosta to the core. God will surely bless them for their dedication . Rest In Peace Father I Dcosta , the Lion of Neerude, who roared with commitment and great fervor. Amen.

The Diocese of Chikmagalur has lost 3 priests one after another in a short span of time. Rev Fr Joe Mary lobo, Fr G. V D’souza and now Fr. D’Costa. All these are very famous priests of Chikmagalur diocese. Very Dynamic, energetic, enthusiastic creative and spiritual. All three were good friends who were made for each other. Fr Ignatius D Costa was born in Nerude on 14.09.1938 and was ordained on 21 .0167 as priest for the Chikmagalur Diocese. He served as the Asst. Parish Priest at Mary Immaculate Church in Bhadravathi new town from 1968 to 1971. from there he was transferred and appointed as parish priest of our lady of mercy church sakleshpur. He worked 7 long years with the territory, consisting of Sundekere, Matasagara, Kadumane, Arehalli...etc.. from there to he was sent to Balehonnur our Lady of Victory church. He served 25 long years as parish priest. A brave man he had a Loud voice like roaring thunder a great preacher...his homilies were very provoking....tuff man....a strong hefty man....lived 54 years as a priest to spread the good news of the Lord. He had lot challenges in his priestly life. He faced it...lived it...fought for it....battled alone Looking very serious ..but soft in his heart. He is ferocious Lion...Henceforth his memories are with us. Fr D Costa was simple in his Life style. he always respected his fellow priests. more or less for the past 15 years he retired from his active service. Eternal rest grant o Lord and the perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace. Fr D’Costa Amar Rahe.

Our family knew Father in Sakaleshpur who was then the Parish priest. My brother & I served as alter boy to Father. He was a wonderful priest and his sermons were great! My sisters Freeda & Quinee, and my brother Christopher - we all bid our respectful farewell to Father. May his soul rest in peace.
