Fr Ambrose D’Souza SJ (66), passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.

There will not be the Holy Eucharist. The burial service will be at the Jesuit cemetery, Jeppu, Mangalore on Wednesday, May 12 at 4.00 pm. Due to the COVID restrictions, only a few will be attending the burial service.

Fr Ambrose was such a lively person and we at SJIMS loved his hearty laugh, the humorous jokes he used to share to make us all laugh too. A very cheerful and caring person. When I was in St Aloysius college in 1998, Rev Fr Ambrose was the warden at St Aloysius College Boys hostel .... We had several interactions at the hostel... He was a gentle human being ..... Many of us students had a love hate relationship with the warden ... 23 years later, personally I do remember him as an essential contributor to my life... the jokes he shared, the way he encouraged us in our studies , also the way he encouraged us to be a part of mass... It is heartbreaking to hear of his passing away.. May God grant his soul rest....

Saddened to hear of the loss of our Dear Fr. Ambrose. Although senior to me, he was my Jesuit companion in the Novitiate in Bangalore and later on at Hassan. Fr. Ambrose lived a very simple life. He had an infectious laughter. He could lighten the mood only with his hearty laughter. A true missionary, he had always opted to work among the poorest of the poor in very difficult places of Karnataka. In the passing away of Fr Ambrose, I have lost a good friend, and the Jesuits have lost a true man of God. Rest in peace Fr. Ambrose. Time now to enjoy a well earned Eternal Bliss. Until we all meet again, Adieu !
