Moodbidri, Sep 6: Addressing the gathering after accepting Vardhamana Award conferred on him, widely acclaimed literary critic, Dr H S Raghavendra Rao (HSR),  strongly advocated the people not to become islands by building walls around them, and instead, build bridges and light the lamps to spread light.

The awards function was organized at Ramarani Research Centre here on Sunday September 5.

Explaining further, HSR said he does not believe in a world devoid of any feelings. While humbly claiming that his achievements in life were not worth celebrating, he paid tributes to those who encouraged and guided him towards achieving progress in his life. In a tone charged with emotion, he spoke about religion and literature.

Short story writer, Vasudhendra, speaking after receiving the Vardhamana Award for upcoming writers, felt that it would be better for the short story tellers to minimize talking, because they tell what they want, through their stories. He said humanity is the greatest religion, and added, he has high regard for all the religions, which guide human beings on the path of righteousness. Commenting about those working in the information technology sector, he felt that they have lost heavily, admitting that they would have earned a little more money than the others. “They have lost in terms of family life, writing, rest and so many other things,” he commented.

Charukeerti Swamiji of Moodbidri Jain Mutt delivered the benedictory address. In his introductory address, chief director of Vardhamana Peetha, Dr Na Mogasale, said that the Peetha has, since its inception, been presenting awards to achievers without getting unduly influenced by caste, religion or any other considerations.

C K Padival, who has been sponsoring the gold medal that comes with this award, president of the Peetha, Kulyady Madhav Pai, who presided over the function, Pundikai Ganapaiah Bhat, Sampat Samrajya, working president of Allama Peetha, Yashodar P Karkera, and several other dignitaries were present at the dais.
