Mangalore, Jul 9 (DHNS): The hunger strike of Gregory Patrao entered 22nd day on Thursday and yet there has been no signs of concern from authorities and elected representatives.

However, the organisations and people coming to show solidarity with the Patraos has only been increasing.

Large number of people gathered at the venue of hunger strike, ie, outside Deputy Commissioner’s office on Thursday under the banners of various organisations and condemned the insensitivity of the district administration.

Pejawar seer Vishweshatheertha Swamiji participating in the protest said that it is a tragic situation that farmers have to stage protest to save their lands.



























Calling the coercive acquisition of Gregory’s land as ‘height of injustice,’ the Seer said: “There are lot of barren land available in the State where the government can establish industry freely. There is no need of acquiring fertile, cultivable land for this purpose,” he said clarifying that he has no objection to what the Court has to decide but what he objects to is the fact that a citizen of this nation who too has the right to justice has been thrown out on street along with his family without being given a fair chance to move to the Court.

Fr William Martis said that Gregory’s plight holds mirror to the fact that there is no value for ‘Gandhigiri’ in this State.

“Peaceful means of protests will not yeild result. If it would, then atleast one official or elected representative would have come to Gregory to enquire about his problems. There is a need to take up alternate method,” he said citing that there is a need to resort to rigorous methods of protest, which was taken up by Mamatha Banerjee in West Bengal.

Former Kannada Sahithya Parishat state president Harikrishna Punaroor, CODP Director Fr Onil and T R Bhat from Karavali Karnataka Janabhivridhi Vedike among others were present.

    RECENT SUPREME COURT JUDGEMENT REGARDING AQUIRING AGRICULTURAL LAND IN ORISSA EXPRESSES FEAR THAT GOVT. IS DRIVING AGRICULTURISTS/FARMERS TO EXTREMISM .

    Is THE GOVT. WANT TO LEAD THE FARMERS TO TAKE TO MAOIST MOVEMENTS?

    Dear Rev.Fr. Martis,Thanks to you as you are real Apostle of Jesus. You are real Shephard who is standing upto guard the sheep,while some of the Shephards are roaming streets of USA and Canada. Looking for goats and Cash while forgetting the Sheep at home. Some Shepards are pounding the streets of Holyland on free trips. They forgot to mend their Sheep. Here is a Sheep who is tortured by greedy and corrupt government system. Farmer family which fed thousands is on hunger and pennyless.
    Elected officials are busy covering the Iron Ore from turbulance, at Bellikeri Port. Remember them during next election when they come to the door.
    Democracy on its' lowest point. Incredible India!!!

And all people out there please remember if we fail in this South Kanara will go the Bhopal way. The Powers that be have devised a nicer, gentler, scrupulous ways to convince land owners. Now that the movement is across religion let us all join together to drive this menace out of Mangalore. Reason is more important than religion.

    I really appreciate the presence of Pejavar seer here.But if he really wants to get some justice to Mr Gregory and else who lost the property in the name of development he can do something as he knows the people who ruling our state now.He has that much power in this government and also in central level of the party which rules Karnataka today.So instead of being in public like here why cant seer act in this issue as he can really give justice to those who lost the property here.And I can see the people here who really wants to support Mr Gregory here but I dont see anyone so called minority supporters here to make this as a issue in the government level and atleast try to give justice to Mr Patrao or anybody else who lost the property.And whenever election comes or any other religious issue comes they will show up from nowhere to get some benefit from the innocent people.

    It is easy to talk of "development" when you don't pay the price for it. Please try to understand that if at least some idiots like Gregory do not put up a fight, the mafia will win every time. Even your little bit of land and mine will not be safe. Any powerful man or entity will be able to seize it with impunity with government connivance. It does not matter if the DC is personally is a good and decent man. He is the face and the uting authority of an oppressive and unjust system.

    Let us not simply dismiss Gregory as a "bali ka bakra" or a trouble-maker. Let us thank God there are some people like him who have the stomach to resist. If there are a few more like him, the mafia would think twice before trying to grab land for dubious projects. If the majority were like him, India would actually have been a safe and pleasant place to live in! It is quite natural that religious leaders would rally behind him. We all should.

    Your fast has entered 22nd day & today nothing has happened and will not happen too. Even the court will not be able to help you. There is a big Real Estate lobby joined hands with the Govt which is called the Land Mafia. If a handful of land mafia is eliminared then you may get justice. I feel only NAXAL'S can help you.

    THIS HUNGER STRIKE IS OF NO USE....The DC of our dist. is a good person and with his order a good and fare amount of compensation 2.5core already sanctioned...its all political game of few people and Mr.Patrao is a BALI KA BAKRA now. As I heard he lost his 50 Lakhs from compensation amount as court fees...at last hese people will make him to loose entire amount so plz wake up Mr.Patrao

    HH Pejavar Swamiji,Fr William Martis and Mr Harikrishna punaroor my humble request is that this issue is not only limitted to HUNGER STRIKER MR PATRAO unless the arrogant policy of Karnataka by forcfully evicting farmers and consificating their fertile land in the name of ABHIVRADHI should be reconsidered and in this direction an mass movement from farmers and NGOs need to be organaised.HH Pejavar Mutt Swamiji's solidarity with Mr Patrao is highly appriciated.

    Mr. Santosh Shetty, Stay order against what? Without furnishing court order the administration has used brute force to throw his family out, they took away all his belongings, including the cloths. They took away the schoolbag,books of his nephew. They didn't even spare the Ganji gregory's mother had cooked. They destroyed the toilets and bathrooms and compelled women of the house to do everything in the open! And no law of this country or no court in this country had ordered them to do this. Now you are suggesting that Gregory should wait for 2 to 3 years to get his belongings back and get the dacoits punished? Will you take care of him and his family till he gets justice? What do you mean by 'Gregory using his religion to gain sympathy is pitiable'? It was Pejavar Swamy and Kemar swamy who stood with from day 1. There are 23 groups supporting his struggle and Catholic sabha is just one of the supporters of Gregory.Please never make communal statements,

    Santhosh, one among the points where gregory seeks justice is that he was not given avenue to bring a stay. The officials came early in the morning and knocked down the house. We need to know data before commenting.

    It is neither religion, nor region. His and land around his was fertile 3 crops land, which was classified as non farming land and acquired. Rest of them gave it away lamely, but he is trying to put a fight with the injustice. People like you, instead of joining hands with the oppressed, pass off-hand comments. The naxalism across our country is because, majority remained mute when injustice was meted out.

    My views and comments have not changed even after 22 days.
    Nothing happened in all these days by his hunger strike and visits of few short time famous people and nothing going to change even if he die there.
    The people should help him to get the compensation instead of supporting the hunger strike.The Seer,the priest coming to this venue of no use,see what Fr William Martis said.I think people should be worried on retrieving his compensation money.
    Do you people know the venue these people sitting and expecting a miracle to happen? This is infront of the british built DC office .
    D you know how old and how bad is the condition of the DC office and other related office buildings around the DC office. It is sad to know that the DC is not in a position to upgrade or find a better place for his own office and you expect the DC to come and help him.
    These officers are nothing but looting pubic money,they are authorized to collect stamp duty,taxes and registration fee.When it comes to development they are helpless.Just take a example of you going to register a Flat or a Bunglow and you pay a stamp duty of One lacs to Ten lacs or more . And you are not provided a chair to sit and wait for your turn.You are not provided with a decent toilet and bathroom,You are not provided with a secured parking, and on the top of it you are not entitled for a good quality paper receipt for the amount paid.
    It is shame on you builders and developers in Mangalore who enter the DC office in a imported car and not a in a position to offer a good chair for you client even though you pay a regular tip to the authorities there.
    You will not find a decent rest table where you can keep your papers and have your signatures on it.I saw people using the walls and car bonnet to rest the documents and sign it. Why you people in Mangalore expect miracles and support this poor man for a wrong direction.

    Santhosh , pleople willing to help Mr.Gregory coming from offices,schools,colleges and various work places for a cause and future of their children and families. Religion has nothing to do with this protest. Look at the photos and mention, Pejawar seer Vishweshatheertha Swamiji was also present. There is nothing fishy.

    If there is any prime and fertile land, the land owner should be aware that he is in danger. The land mafia & state govt hand in gloves are there to grab it. First the state notifying the land as barren, uncultivated, forest to make sure its case wins in court, as our law does not have any eyes.
    To protect their own land, they can make a barren land to agricultural land overnight. If we can not protect our farmers, we do not have any right to crib on raising commodity prices.

    While we sympathise with Gregory and his family it looks as though he is being used as a mask of all those vested interests who are making use of the man. I do agree that his land is taken. With so many families willingly leaving thier land Gregory using his religion to gain sympathy is pitiable. If he feels that injustice is done the best thing he could do was to get an stay order from the court. No one is preventing him from approaching the court. What is the use of Dharna in front of the D C when it is the court which has quashed his appeal. I smell something fishy.

    Time is too short & earth is crying for its space. sea gets wild, earth quakes, cyclons, all these are happening still we try to avoid things in the name of allocating farmers land to petro poluted industries in the city and surrounding areas.

    People if you don't support this particular farmer means your time is very close to loose lands in the name of developement. Corrupt official will capture all land and left nothing in Mangalore for poor. Plese gather together without thinkig about religion or caste. Help one another then not a single govt official can do anything
