Mangaluru: Man tries to escape theft attempt from shop, held

Mangaluru, Dec 4: A man who was trying to steal from a provision store and was escaping, was caught by the police with the help of the locals on Thursday December 3.

A man approched Sri Durga General Store on Mosque Road and tried to steal from there at around 3.30 am. A woman living in an opposite house conveyed information to the shop owner over phone. Owner of the shop, Dinesh Ameen, came and closed the shutter door. The thief hit Ameen's foot with a rod from below the shutter and came out by forcibly opening the shutter. The thief then chased Deepak with a rod in hand. As he raised an alarm, the thief ran behind Hotel Lalit Mahal.

The police and locals waited around the building and at around 6.30 am, the thief came out from inside a bush and hid inside a culvert. The police and locals arrested the thief. Even though he was questioned, he did not give any information about his previous thefts etc, the police said.
