Mangaluru: CASK distributes annual scholarships

Media Release

Mangaluru, Sep 22: The Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK) on September 17 distributed scholarships for the academic year 2020-2021, at a simple procedure at the CASK office at Pio Mall, Bejai-Mangaluru.

A total of fifty-two (52) students from 34 educational institutions in Mangaluru and DK district, ranging from primary school to post-graduate degree courses were handed over the scholarship cheques with a total worth of Rs 3,84,700. This included 32 students from primary, secondary school or PUC who received Rs 5,000 each, 12 students pursuing degree courses who received Rs 6,000 each and 8 students pursuing post-graduate courses who received an amount from Rs 10,000 to Rs 30,000 each.

It was clearly explained that the scholarship amounts are primarily meant for books, extra coaching and transport.

The scholarship beneficiaries and one of their parents were invited to CASK office at staggered timings from 9.30 – 13.00 hours on September 17 and the cheques were handed over to them by CASK president – Nayana Fernandes, and vice-presidents – Captain Vincent Pais and Patsy Lobo.

Strict adherence to COVID-19 precautions like wearing masks, physical distancing and use of hand sanitizers were followed. The entire procedure was implemented with clock-like precision and efficiency – a trademark of CASK activities and functions.

CASK was inundated with scholarship requests this year because of many parents losing their jobs or getting reduced salaries or losses in business. The scholarships granted by CASK are modest but even small amounts make a big difference. We, therefore, request our members and well-wishers to contribute toward the CASK Scholarship Fund so that we can give the benefit of scholarship to a few more students.
