New Jersey: Monthi Fest celebrated on East Coast

Media Release

New Jersey, Sep 18: The MCA-EC (USA) and MCA DC/MD/VA (USA) associations jointly celebrated Monthi Fest on September 5 at the Holy Trinity Church in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. This event was followed by a virtual cultural event on September 12.

The eucharistic mass was a joyous celebration attended by around 75 members (restricted attendance due to the current COVID-19 epidemic). Fr Ron Machado, who was assisted by Deacon Glen Mendonca and Deacon Francis D'Mello, celebrated the mass. The choir was led by Vijai Furtado. Mass video and photography recorded by Christopher Monis and Clayton Monis.

All of the MCA members took into account the situation this year but enthusiastically celebrated their favourite feast. Taking advantage of technology, the mass was premiered on YouTube at 10.00 am EST on September 12. All the associations collectively viewed the broadcast to simulate the in-person experience. This was followed by a video drop of the cultural programme.

The cultural programme was a medley put together by both the associations. MCA-EC’s eight wards each recorded their own musical medleys in addition to the DC/MD/VA association’s wonderfully curated performances. Some families arranged to watch parties in their own quarantine bubbles to view the two-hour-long experience (which was fun). The cultural event was well received and all the members’ talents were greatly appreciated. The viewership was worldwide, with views from Singapore, the Middle East, India and Canada. The association is grateful for this opportunity to stay spirited and united. Kudos to both the executive boards and all the ward leaders for putting the events together.
