M'luru: Yenepoya University organises online interactive programme on stress management during Covid

Mangaluru, Aug 21: National Service Scheme, department of youth empowerment & sports, Government of Karnataka in collaboration with Yenepoya (Deemed To Be University) organised a state-level online interactive programme on August 17.

Dr Ashwini S Shetty, NSS Programme coordinator (Yenepoya Deemed to be University), Mangaluru delivered the welcome speech. Dr Gananath Shetty Yekkar, state NSS officer, ex-officio joint secretary to the government of Karnataka, in his keynote address highlighted the importance of organising this programme for volunteers and programme officers of various universities. K V Kadrinarsimaiah regional director, regional directorate of NSS, Government of India, was the chief guest addressed the participants highlighting the different steps to manage the stress.

Dr Ravichandra Karkal, associate professor, department of psychiatry, Yenepoya Medical College, who was the recourse person gave a brief introduction on origin spread and precaution and prevention of COVID-19 and elaborately explanted isolation stigma, signs and symptoms of stress, the effect of stress on our body and what are the steps to manage the stress and how to overcome stress. He has emphasized the role of students in managing stress in elderly people. There was an interaction at the end of the session.

Dr C V Raghuveer, pro-vice-chancellor, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University) in his presidential address said that Covid-19 pandemic may be stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a new disease can cause strong emotions in adult and children. He said by giving an example of his own family coping with stress in a healthy way will make you stronger. The session ended by proposing a vote of thanks by Dr Poornima Jogi, implementation officer, at state NSS Cell, Karnataka.
