Bantwal, Aug 8: The level of water in the Netravati river has crossed the danger mark here due to incessant rain for the last five days. The level above 9.3 meter on Saturday morning caused fear.

Water entered several houses and shops. Aladka, Baddakatte, Goodinabali and Bantwal are inundated as every year. However, the level decreased toward the evening. Water entered Panemangalore, Aladka, Nandavara, Bogodi, Goodinabali, Bastipadpu, Bantwal Kelaginapete, Talapady, Poonnodi, Tumbe, Valavoor, Pudu, Navunda and Ajilamogaru areas.

The rain and storm caused widespread destruction. The boundary wall of Church Anganwadi centre, Kukkippadi village collapsed. Rainwater entered the Anganwadi building damaging the roof as well.

A tree was uprooted and fell at Hanchikatte on B C Road, Dharmastala road across the highway disrupting traffic for some time. Water entered houses near Aladka and the historic Ajilamagaru Jumma mosque. Uppinangady- Bantwal road is inundated.



Filled up dams:

Shambhoor dam is filled and 14 gates are 50% opened. Water is being let out after the siren every now and then. Water has been flowing at 7.8 meter height on Thumbe dam. The water level was 6.4 meter yesterday. All the 30 gates are opened here.

Water has entered the agricultural fields of Srinivas Nayaka at Nelligudde damaging coconut and other plantations. District panchayat member Padma Shekar Jain, assistant horticulture officer Pradeep D’Souza and revenue officials conducted the inspection.

MLA Rajesh Naik reviewed the situation in Bantwal. Taluk administration took suitable measures. Officials visited the places and took precautionary measures. Gram panchayat officials are stationed in the panchayat limits. The MLA has directed them to undertake relief measures.
