Bengaluru: CCB police target illegal immigrants, seize fake foreign currency

Bengaluru, Aug 4: There are a large number of illegal immigrants in the city. Central Crime Branch (CCB) police launched large scale raids on a number of residences of foreign nationals who have been staying here without valid permission. During the raids, a large number of foreign currency notes were seized.

Teams of CCB comprising over 200 personnel raided about 35 houses in Hennur, Kottanur, Jagalur and Banaswadi here. Over 20 persons who have overstayed in the city even after the expiry of their passport or visa terms were taken into custody.

Out of the houses raided, fake currency notes of the denominations of Rs 500 and 2,000 were found in one. Currency notes of US dollars and pound sterlings were also found. They were confiscated by the police, who also took away the laptops in their possession.

CCB officials have continued with their investigation.
