Gujarat's corona death toll now 1,007, total cases 16,356


Gandhinagar, May 30 (IANS): Gujarat's death toll due to novel coronavirus climbed to 1,007 on Saturday as 27 more persons succumbed to the dreaded virus. With 412 new cases, the total crossed the 16K-mark to 16,356.

The state has 6,119 active cases at present, of which the condition of 6,057 is stable. The condition of 62 patients is critical and are on ventilators.

The state has been registering over 20 deaths daily since beginning of May. Of the 27 new casualties, Ahmedabad reported 24. A patient each from Gandhinagar, Banaskantha and Mahesana also succumbed to the virus on Saturday.

A total of 621 patients were discharged on Saturday, taking the total cured patients to 9,230.

According to the state government, the recovery rate of Gujarat has now improved to 56.43% from 39.20% 15 days back.

A total of 793 persons have succumbed to the virus in May till date. Out of the total deaths, 822 deaths were reported in Ahmedabad (81.62%), followed by 67 in Surat, 39 in Vadodara, 14 in Gandhinagar, 10 in Anand, 8 in Bhavnagar, and 6 in Panchmahals.

Of 412 new cases, Ahmedabad had the maximum 284, followed by Surat 55, Vadodara 28, Gandhinagar 12, Aravalli 6, Banaskantha, Rajkot, Sabarkantha and Panchmahals 3 each, Anand, Patan, Jamnagar and Chotta Udepur 2 each, and Bhavnagar, Kutch, Mahisagar, Amreli, Porbandar and other states one positive case each.

Out of Gujarat's total 16,356 cases, Ahmedabad leads with maximum 11,881, followed by Surat 1,565, Vadodara 1,009, Gandhinagar 261, Bhavnagar 120, Mahisagar 115, Mahesana 112, Rajkot 108, Banaskantha 107, Aravalli 103, Sabarkantha 101, Anand 99, Panchmahals 85, Patan 78, Kutch 80, Kheda 65, Botad 59, and Jamnagar 54 cases.

Health authorities have so far carried out 2,05,780 tests in the state, of which 16,356 tested positive and 1,89,424 negative.

People quarantined total 2,53,845, out of which 2,45,701 are home quarantined and 8,144 in institutional quarantine.
