Considering resolution against NRC: Tamil Nadu CM


Chennai, Feb 26 (IANS): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Wednesday said that his government is considering passing a resolution in the Assembly agains the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and also revoking the cases filed against the anti-hydrocarbon project protestors.

He was speaking to reporters in Tiruchirappalli district.

Queried whether Tamil Nadu will follow Bihar in passing a resolution against NRC Palaniswami said the matter is under the government's consideration.

When a demand was made by the opposition to pass a resolution against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the Assembly, Palaniswami said the interests of minorities will be protected by his government.

Asked about the withdrawal of cases filed against anti-methane/hydrocarbon project protestors after the state government passing a law declaring a major portion of the Cauvery delta region as 'protected special agriculture zone', he said the matter is also under the government's consideration.

On the allocation of Rajya Sabha seat for AIADMK alliance partner DMDK, Palaniswami said the matter will be decided by the party high command.
