Indore, Dec 7: In a humorous turn of events, a thief who spent an entire night breaking into a house in Madhya Pradesh's Shajapur district was disappointed when he had to leave empty-handed. Seeing his entire efforts and night go in vain, he made sure to pen his frustration on a letter addressed to the owner of the house. In his letter, the thief called the homeowner 'Kanjoos' (miser) and cursed him for foiling his night.

The homeowner Parvesh Soni, a government engineer in Madhya Pradesh was away on an official trip when his house was broken into. After an unsuccessful robbery, the thief before leaving the house wrote, "Bahut Kanjoos Hai Re Tu, Khidki Todne Ki Mehnat Ka Phal Bhi Nahi Mila, Raat Kharab Ho Gayi (You are a miser, I did not even get a reward for breaking in through the window, my night turned out to be bad)."

Interestingly, the house where Soni resides is next to that of a judge and a joint collector in Adarsh Nageen Nagar.

On Thursday morning, the maid of the house discovered the letter and immediately alerted the police. On arrival at the crime scene, the police found that all the cabinets were forcefully opened and clothes and other items were left scattered around. The police noticed that Soni's diary was placed on a coffee table with the page containing the thief's note left open.

"Soni is yet to return from his outstation assignment. A complaint has been filed in his absence at Shajapur's Kotwali police station," SP Pankaj Shrivastav said.

"The case is under investigation. Police are scanning the surveillance camera footage to find clues. The thief's note has been sent to a handwriting expert," Shrivastav added.
