Smriti Irani slams opposition for politicising rape

New Delhi, Dec 6 (IANS): Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani on Friday came out heavily on the Opposition in Parliament, accusing them of politicising rape.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, the Minister said that "people who used rape as political weapon in West Bengal panchayat elections are giving sermons," adding "this is not a political issue. I thought that you should have commented when Adhir Ranjan was speaking."

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the Congress MP from Berhampore in West Bengal, had, during a debate in the House, had commented on the Unnao rape case, connecting the matter with the BJP's governance in Uttar Pradesh.

He had said: "The Unnao victim has 95 per cent burns, what is going on in the country? On the one hand Lord Ram's temple is being built, while on the other Sita is being set ablaze."

Irani also said politicising rape does not help women in any manner.

"The fact that you shout here today, means you do not want a woman to stand up and talk about issues. You were quiet when in West Bengal panchayat polls, rape was used as a political weapon," she said.

"Nothing can be more unfortunate for the dignity of women than politicising rape. The Hyderabad case was an atrocity on women but making it a political issue will not help." she added.

Dear Smriti Iraniji, did you even make a statement when this rape & murder took place in Hyderabad. Where was any politician from ruling party making a statement and utter a word ? I do not really think so.
Let the Govt take stringent action against the accused. Then no one will dare speak against you or your Government.

It is because of her party the BJP has been protecting Rapists and the Studded Silence of the Prime Minister on the issue of Rapes across the country that this mennace has reached alarming proportions. Like when she was in the opposition, she should offer her bangles to the PM Modi for allowing this situation to go out of control.

Her party has been protecting rapists. In fact her party MLAs and MPs are directly involved in rape. Probably she thinks that her party is above law and has such privileges. According to he people should keep quiet and bear such criminals.

This woman knows to speak only to support her party. She is the so called Minister for Women and Child Development and when the rape took place, never did she utter a word. Wasn't it incumbent on her to wake up and speak when the gruesome murder took place? All along she was quiet and only now has gotten up.

Yes Smriti Irani "politicising rape doesn't help women in any manner". So does waking up and talking only when a rape occurs equally doesn't help.
