Toilet wall collapses in MP, 2 kids dead, inquiry ordered

Bhopal, Nov 12 (IANS): Two tribal children died when a wall of a toilet constructed under the Swacch Bharat Mission collapsed in Rathkheda village of Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. A three-member committee has been formed to inquire into the irregularities in the construction of the toilet.

The deceased kids have been identified as Raja (7) and Prince (6).

A resident of Rathkheda, Kotwar Ram Singh, said that this village has been declared ODF (Open Defecation Free) but the toilets constructed in the villages are not usable, hence the villagers defecate in the open only.

Assistant Secretary of the village Shashikant Dhakar said, "The toilet which collapsed was not constructed during my tenure. I took charge this year itself."

Congress MLA from Pohari Suresh Rathkheda, who hails from Rathkheda itself, accused the BJP and said, "It was a BJP government in the state for the last 15 years and the MLA of the village was also from the BJP. Now it is my (Rathkheda) party's government and I will ask the officials to probe the matter and take action against the guilty."

He also assured of financial help to the family of the deceased children.

The CEO Zila Panchayat H P Verma said, "A three-member committee has been formed to probe into the quality of construction of the material used to build the toilet. Action will be taken against the guilty after the inquiry report is submitted by the committee."
