Udupi, Sep 16: "In recent times, the younger generation has faced a variety of mental health issues which require proper identification and timely intervention. The demands placed upon them sometimes overwhelms the teenagers. This can result in feeling sad, low interest, loss of concentration, disturbed sleeping habits, procrastination, suicidal ideations, addictions in various forms, poor academics, depletion of values, disregard to parents and authorities. Failure to create awareness among the students and youth leads to a disturbed society in the future," said Dr Avinash Joe, psychiatrist, Fr Muller Medical College, Mangaluru.

Dr Avinash Joe addressed a gathering at 'Mind your Mind' awareness programme organized for the students of St Mary’s College, Shirva by the Youth Red Cross and NSS unit of the college. Further, he also mentioned about how to manage stress and its complications. In helpless situations students should not feel shy to seek professional help.

The programme was presided over by Prof Rajan V N, principal of the college. These days, deviated attention of the younger generation is to be streamlined at all levels.
