Bantwal: Illegal transport of beef - Police arrest three, confiscate vehicle

Bantwal, Jul 22: Police arrested three people over illegal transport of cow meat in an auto rickshaw and confiscated the vehicle also. This incident took place under the limits of Punjalakatte police station of the taluk.

The arrested accused are identified as Abdul Razak, Razik and Riyaz, all local residents.

Police acted upon a definite information of slaughtering a cow without permission behind a house in Manjal Palke of Kukkala village of Beltangady taluk and transporting around 60 kg of cow meat in an autorickshaw.

Police confiscated 60 kg of cow meat, the auto rickshaw that was used to transport the meat and the tools used to slaughter the cow. The total value of the confiscated goods is estimated to be Rs 1.22 lac.

A case in this connection is registered at Punjalakatte police station.

    Enough is Enough !! Daily non stop, habitual trafficking cattle meat, rising communal tension, hatred, has created severe distrust, between communities.... Why cant we end this unwarranted headache ??? Why cant we turn into vegetarianism, will be extremely rewarding for the entire country !!!!

    Under Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2010.

    Section 8 - Restriction on the transport of animal or cow for slaughter
    No person shall transport or offer for transport or cause to be transported any animal or cow from any place within the State to any place outside the State, for the purpose of its slaughter in contravention of the provisions of this Act or with the knowledge that it will be or is likely to
    be, so slaughtered.

    The Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Cattle Preservation Act, 1964 governs the slaughter of cattle in the state. Slaughter of cow, the calf of a cow (male or female) or calf of a she-buffalo totally prohibited. Slaughter of bulls, bullocks and adult buffaloes is permitted on obtaining a "fit-for-slaughter" certificate provided cattle is over 12 years of age or is permanently incapacitated for breeding, draught or milk due to injury, deformity or any other cause. Transport for slaughter to a place outside the State not permitted. Sale, purchase or disposal of a cow or a calf, for slaughter, is not permitted.

    Anyone violating the law can be punished with imprisonment up to a maximum of 6 months or fine of up to ₹1,000 or both. The crime is treated as a cognizable offense.


    If the transport of meat is illegal to carry by auto-rickshaw, what is the legal way to carry under the law?
    It is not the responsibility of the District Commissioner and Law enforcement department issue circular to create awareness through local channels and print media?

    Cow is Mummy for few us and yammy for few others. Why people of Karnataka deprived from eating beef and allowed for the people of Goa, North East and beef export companies to fulfill the needs of foreigners. . Does this law of the land makes any sense? and for what purpose beef is banned when all religious scriptures clearly mentioned to consume them.

    Eating beef is not banned in Karnataka. Stealing cattle, unauthorised transportation and illegal slaughter of animals are against the law. Such meat can even be of sick or dead animals.

    A thief is a thief and not necessarily he be called as thief if he steal only cows. You are not aware of the facts that cow slaughter and issuing of slaughter houses banned here that resulting illegal trafficking and theft.

    Also, slaughtering Cows & transporting meat in illegal way is against the rule or law of the land?
    Must learn to respect the rule & law of the land first. Beef is not totally banned in Karnataka but practicing unlawful way of slaughter & consumption cannot be tolerated.

    What I understand is, fact of the matter is demand and supply. At present demand forbeef is more, and supply is very less. I urge the people who are against cow slaughtering, stop eating beef.Then obviously demand will decrease, and illegal slaughtering and sale of beef will disappear.
