Bengaluru: JD(S) legislator A T Ramaswamy resigns

Bengaluru, Jun 16: JD(S) MLA, A T Ramaswamy, has resigned form the post of the president of the legislature committee on government assurances. He reportedly decided to resign having lost his faith in the government.

Ramaswamy is a legislator representing Arkalgud assembly constituency in Hassan district. His resignation comes close in the heels of JD(S) state president, H Vishwandath, leaving the post of the state president of the party. These resignations give an indication that all is not well within the JD(S).

The state government has already been floored by the opposition and its own legislators on the issue of decision to dispose off over 3,000 acres of land to Jindal's JSW at Ballari. In his resignation letter, Ramaswamy reportedly has said that the government has failed to keep up the promise which it had made to him. He has accused the government of going back on its words and coming to the rescue of people who have gobbled up government land.

The resignation letter was sent to the assembly speaker and the chief minister. In the letter, he has reminded that at the Belagavi session of the assembly, he had on December 13, 2018, raised the topic of over 310 acres of land in Bengaluru having been aligned in favour of individuals. "The revenue minister and deputy commissioner had agreed that it was illegal on their part to do so. But so far no action has been taken against the guilty deputy commissioner. The government has also not initiated any steps to retrieve the said land. The promises made to the president of assurances committee are broken. Hurt by this, I am resigning," Ramaswamy said. He also objected to the fact that ten hearings were undertaken in a month to announce that the government land in fact belongs to individual.

In a tweet in this connection, BJP MLA, Suresh Kumar, said that Ramaswamy has resigned as he has lost confidence in the government.
