Udupi, Apr 16: District MLA K Raghupati Bhat in a press meet here on Monday, April 15, taking a dig at chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said, “Through PUC results, once again we proved that Udupi people are clever and intelligent. The district education department achieved it by taking it as a challenge. The CM should accept the truth'.
“Pramod Madhwaraj stopped diesel subsidy for fishermen. Earlier it was distributed directly to diesel bunks. But once he became minister, he made tax subsidy amount to be directly depositing into their accounts. Hence, fishermen were in trouble.”
“An order was passed to increase 300 litres of diesel to 500 litres for fishermen’s boat every day. Madhwaraj ignored the order,” Bhat alleged.
“According to Matsashraya scheme, the government had planned to construct 400 houses for fishermen. Later on, this project was handed over from Fisheries department to Rajiv Gandhi Housing Board. Now, they are facing problem to get the benefit. Pramod is directly accountable for these technical complications.
“Recently, chief minister Kumaraswamy visited Udupi to take part in election campaign and public meetings. In his busy schedule, CM went to Pramod's house at Kolalagiri to have dinner, but why did he not meet the family of two missing fishermen. It was just five kilo meters away from Santhekatte. At least CM could have consoled the family members. They are waiting for their missing son since three months.
“Pramod did not give any new schemes when he was minister. He is alone accountable for fishermen’s problem'. They are very much disappointed about him,” he said.
Opposition BJP leader Kota Srinivas Poojary said, “BJP is very much confident in winning Lok Sabha election in the three coastal districts with majority votes. It was revealed in surveys. BJP manifesto is about safeguarding the interest of common people and ensures strengthening of military forces.
“We will get clear majority in the country as well as state too,” he said.
Yashpal Suvarna, president, Undivided Dakshina Kannada Fish Marketing Federation, Prabhakar Poojary, president, district BJP, Praveen Kappettu, Tharanath of Mahashakti Sangha of Malpe, Vinod, Pradeep Shetty and others were present.
