Mangaluru: MLA Vedavyas Kamath requests state not to prune Dasara holidays in coast

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 23: The city (south) MLA, Vedavyas Kamath, has urged the government not to cut down the Dasara holidays in schools functioning in Dakshina Kannada district at any cost.

"Dasara festival has a special significance in Dakshina Kannada district. Just like Mysuru Dasara, Mangaluru Dasara also has won national recognition. During this period, ancient temples dedicated to Goddess Durgaparameshwari at Kateel, Goddess Rajarajeshwari at Polali, and Goddess Mangaladevi in the city are thronged by devotees in thousands. Giving holidays to children during this period has been a tradition that has been followed since very long," he explained.

Kamath noted that the deputy commissioner of the district had announced emergency holidays to schools and colleges on account of natural calamities, and that the education department has sent circular to all the educational institutions to set off these holidays against the Dasara holidays.

Kamath feels that reducing the holidays to October 14 to 21 from the earlier October 7 to 21 is improper. "Holidays being given for Dasara should not be reduced. The holidays given because of excessive rains can be balanced by holding additional classes on Saturdays," he opined.

He noted that the government has said that the issue of giving holidays for Christmas is left to the discretion of respective schools and colleges. Likewise, he has expressed the opinion that same stand should have been owned even in respect of Dasara holidays, duly pointing out in a release that the circular cutting Dasara holidays shows that the state government is owning dual stand on the same issue for different institutions.

MLA Vedvyas is like 'Manga-gala upavaasa' (Kannada poem about monkeys celebrating a feast)

Holidays are enjoyed in advance when the DC declared on account of heavy rains. Now, if you say you want more holidays, how is it possible ? Who/how will pending portion complete ?

Please Minister, concentrate on what is your responsibility, let the DC do his.

His wife said during election that Hinduism is under danger. Now let him and his wife and all his Hindu (who says Hinduism in under danger) supporters take time out to complete the portion of the children in all schools in Mangalore. Children this year had more than enough holidays. So time to cut it off. Don't make them lazy.

Has the MLA seen to the vehicle's carrying children without any board saying that they are carrying children. If they are about twenty vehicles carrying students to a particular school only one or two have a board saying that they are transporting children to school. Our present MLA is interested in holidays than how children are come to school. RTO not at all bothered about the school vans, buses, omin and etc.

This MLA is good for nothing..
He is busy with innugrations & being chief guest
He is not worried about the development ...repairing roads.
Dasara holidays were only for 10days from before
Already due to rains so many holidays were given .
Potions are pending ,teachers are stressed, students under pressure & this guy is worried about dasara holidays ...10 days are more then enough
Talking about Xmas holidays its only one week.holidays from 24th dec to Jan 2nd. So no extra holidays are given.
And Christians have only one big feast which is celebrated xmas .
Of course Easter comes on sunday.
This happens when a un experience & uneducated MLA is elected

Let us all be sensible! Its not about business holidays, its for school children and as Mr Kamath puts it right. Don't make it minority/majority issue for small children too. Let all celebrate all festivals as before.

    Dinesh,

Could you manage to bring uniformity between Govt and Pvt sector public holidays at the country you are working ? If not, please don't worry about holidays in India.

Minister Vedvyas nor schools say we will work, when the DC declared holidays during heavy rains. As such, both parties have no right to fight for holidays that will be cut from coming occasions.

Why these politicians are after unwanted issues ? School management & education departments will decide on these issues. Start with development of the city we need to concentrate on roads, footpath & parking. Also all electrical wires to go underground.

It Looks like MLA is more worried than the parents....

One more point Mr. MLA raised is conduct additional classes... If so who will compensate these additional hours to the teachers. Teachers are already frustrated by teaching almost 6 to 7 classes. Aren't they human beings. Even DC announced school holidays, some parents did send their children to school as it was last minute announcement, which has not reached to parents on time. Additionally, Teachers were in the school during this period.

First let the MLA decide how many additional classes to be conducted and deposit the appropriate compensation amount in the teachers account and then talk about extra classes.

All politicians should focus on how to give good education to our younger generation involving advanced technology, reduce the workload of both children and parents. Moreover, try to promote healthy environment at least in education system.

Now a days everything is politics, just because BJP MLA is saying many are opposing. Dasara Holidays are for leisure and we also enjoyed during our childhood. And the holidays declared during natural calamities were emergency precautions. Both cannot be compensated each other.

Keep your dirty politics aside from every single thing around you Mr.MLA. focus on getting works done in your constituencies. Just like the MP you also have been trying to do things that make you look utterly stupid ad an elected representative. Get the roads set, under ground drainage issues, water issues sorted first. There are a tonne of things around. Stop shamelessly interfering in such petty things.
