Udupi: Government indulging in oppressive rule - MLC Srinivas Poojary

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Sep 21: "The Congress - JD(S) alliance in the state is indulging in oppression. The chief minister of the state, who is responsible to maintain law and order in the state, has called upon people to indulge in rioting, which is a tragic development. He is unfit to rule the state," said leader of the opposition in the state legislative council, Kota Srinivas Poojary.

He was addressing the media persons here on Thursday September 20 relating to an incident in which hundreds of Congressmen had mobbed 'Dhavalagiri', residence of state BJP president, Yeddyurappa, at Bengaluru, and derided BJP.

"Congress party laid siege to the residence of Yeddyurappa without informing the police and without obtaining permission from the government. This clearly shows its attitude of goondaism. The government, instead of controlling such activities, is purposefully extending tacit support to such illegal acts. This is highly condemnable. No government should steep so low as to get involved with such wrongdoings," he commented.

Poojary felt that the chief minister's attitude in calling the people to indulge in revolt instead of controlling illegal activities and putting in order the administration system in the state exposes terrorist mindset. No other chief minister in recent history has issued such statements. This is tantamount to murder of democracy, he added.

Drop Shivakumar from ministry

Srinivas Poojary reminded the chief minister that central government is not responsible for the notice served to minister, D K Shivakumar. If Kumaraswamy claims himself to be governing with self respect and transparency, he should have dropped Shivakumar from the state ministry when allegations that he was the ATM of Congress high command had surfaced, or when he received notice from enforcement directorate, he felt.

"This incident reveals the extent to which our CM is honest," he said sarcastically.

BJP ready to rule

In democratic systems, ups and downs are common. It is true that the party had indicated that if the situations take such a shape that the atmosphere is conductive for the party, BJP is ready to take over the reins of the state. There is nothing wrong in it. If the legislators support us, BJP will form the government, he explained.

"Former minister, A Manju, has accused minister, Revanna, of annexing government land worth thousands of crores of rupees in the name of his family members. I want to know whether as the chief minister of the state, you are prepared to order a detailed investigation into this allegation. Or alternatively will you think of strategies to escape from these charges," he wanted to know, and forcefully demanded that this matter should be probed in detail.
