Dubai, Aug 18: Assuring moral support to flood-affected people of Kerala, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president of UAE and the ruler of Dubai tweeted in Malayalam language on Saturday, August 18.

“Brothers and sisters, Kerala state in India is passing through a great flood. This is the deadliest flood of the century. Hundreds have died and thousands of people have become homeless. As a prelude to Eid al-Adha, do not forget to extend the helping hand in India,” he tweeted along with two rescue photos.

Once the tweet came from ruler, thousands of re-tweeted it and showed their concern towards Kerala. Same words he posted in Facebook also. “To help the victims, UAE and Indian community will stand together. We have formed a committee for emergency help to Kerala. I request all kindly to contribute to the relief fund. The people of Kerala are part of our success story. So we have the responsibility to help them and show our gratitude,” he continued.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Sharjah ruler Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi has donated Rs 4 crore to help Kerala victims on Saturday.

Hundreds of Malayalee associations in the Gulf countries, from church prayer groups to arts and cultural outfits, have also come together to raise funds. An amount of Rs 100 crore is expected, a source said. .

Meanwhile India's ambassador to the UAE, Navdeep Singh Suri, said that he will chair a meeting tomorrow with community organizations, activists and business leaders to coordinate relief support to Kerala from UAE.

I the luckiest person...... I born in India and I am a real Indian and when something goes wrong in India I feel very sad and try to help them but I am happy because I spent my 44 years in UAE under our good rulers like Shaikh zayed, Shaikh Rashid, and Present rulers who are not thinking about religion, caste and creed. Thank you Sheikh Mohammed for helping my country.

Very sad, Kodagu should also get some relief from foreign help. Even the test match there is a relief note for Kerala flood victims. "Stand with Kerala". Sony ESPN (Asian games) the hosts only spoke about Kerala floods not about Kodagu. Viren Rasquinha former Indian hockey captain spoke about Kerala floods not about Kodagu though there are so many from Kodagu district in the Indian hockey team. Looks like the media only highlighting about Kerala floods not about Kodagu floods and also other districts of Karnataka. Pray for all the victims of Kerala and Kodagu.

    Dylan,

What you said is true.odagu too suffering a lot... A, big disaster for them. No voice messages/videos etc are received by us from them. No one speaks about them... Really sad...those who are concerned about other floods, let them have concern towards kodagu too. Let's lift them up in our strong prayers if we are unable to help them in any other ways.

All those who are directly involved in collecting food items/clothes/money/medicine..please see to that it's directly reaching the Needy and sufferers. Let's not be selfish and greedy in delivering the items...some requests are also received by us saying brand new clothes/brand new bed sheets/blankets etc..instead of saying clean washed items in good condition.

In this situation how people can wash/clean/dry brand new clothes/bed sheets/blankets. Once the situation turn to normalcy surely we will help them by brand new items.
Some items like inner wears should be given unused ones.

    may god protect our people.

This is the time to forget personal differences and to extend support to our brothers and sisters in Kerala. Why citizens of gulf countries are taking interest in Kerala is because of the presence of Kerala people everywhere in gulf countries, starting from cleaners, drivers, salesman, professionals, doctors engineers, mangers and businessmen it is just impossible to ignore them. It is said that the oven is lit in Kerala mainly because of the money sent by the Kerala people working in gulf. There are many people hating Kerala may be because of their excess enthusiasm in supporting Kerala and ignoring non Kerala people and non Kerala issues. Now it is time to forget everything and support Kerala financially and in heart and pray god at least we are safe and keep on praying to avert such disasters.
