Rupee moving towards its natural value: NITI Aayog

New Delhi, Aug 16 (IANS): As rupee continued to fall to new record lows on Thursday, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar said the Indian currency was overvalued and is moving towards its real value, and that it will not hurt the Indian economy.

"Let's be clear, the depreciation of the Indian Rupee against the USD is not indicative of a bad time for the Indian economy. Over the past three years, the rupee has been overvalued by approximately 17 per cent and the current depreciation of 9.8 per cent since January is a move towards its natural value," Kumar tweeted.

During the morning session, the Indian rupee weakened to a fresh record low of 70.32 per US dollar on wider trade deficit, outflow of foreign funds and global cues. It had plunged to its previous lowest-ever mark of 70.08 on Tuesday morning.

Kumar, head of government's premier policy-making think tank, in another tweet said that the focus should now be on taking advantage of the depreciated rupee in terms of boosting exports and reducing trade deficit.

"A sharper focus needs to be on further improving our export performance. As @nasscom and @anandmahindra, both have said that this depreciation will help boost our exports which will be a sure way to reduce the trade and current account deficits," he added.

To counter the perception that rupee is seeing a major fall, Kumar highlighted the time periods in the previous government when the Indian currency saw steep depreciation.

While the rupee depreciated 15.8 per cent against the greenback in the last four years between May 2, 2014 and August 14, 2018, it fell 19.96 per cent between April 2, 2009 and April 30, 2014, showed the table posted by Kumar in his tweet.

Further, according to the table, while the local currency fell 9.6 per cent in the eight months since January 1, 2018, it depreciated by 24.74 per cent in just over six months between May 2, 2013 and November 3, 2013.

"To highlight, the Indian economy today is not counted among the fragile five as it was during the period of May-November 2013," he added.

I am still waiting to depreciate upto 17% instead 9.8% so that BJP can give perfect Shradanjali to Late Shri AB Vajpayee and BJP can say that $1 is equal to his age when he died. But God is great He does not want to insult the great leader but he kept the value of the dollar to our beloved Modi's age.

ABD can send more dollars to the India, he loves Mr. Modi.

The Modi government has sent the rupee to the 'Margdarshak Mandal'. What the Congress party could not achieve in 60 years, Modi ji and his careless economic policies have achieved in 60 months.

No amount of silencing voices, fudged statistics can hide the Govt's total failure and incompetence in handling the Economy. The Rupee loudly tells that story!

The aim of Modi government was to bring the rupee on an equal pedestal to the dollar, as it was 70 years ago when India gained Independence, the current situation is quite the opposite, as "at 71 years of Independence, we are touching 70"

    Simple calculation.
Example: Let us image India has to pay interest $100 per month to World Bank.

2018 beginning $100 is equal to India Rupees 6500
Now it reached $100 is equal to India Rupees 7200
That means every month Rs.700 will go extra to World Bank. This is an example but think millions of dollar loan is there for India. Where we are heading???????

NITI Aayog is Modi's spoon and tape recorder.

Haha haha....What a joke!?. So if it's now moving towards it's natural value! Was it moving towards it's artificial value during MMS!?. See how these people are twisting and turning things as per their convenience!?. If our economy was solid and moving like a elephant, then the elephant could have trampled a small disturbance like Turkey!!!!.

If Rupee's natural value is this, then how come a few politicians were trying to bring it to the artificial value? One $ to RS 10/-.

Rupee was at 58 in 2014 and now 71 in 2018. So much of noise was done about Rupee in 2014 where natural value was not used but the shameless BJP used every dirty trick to degrade Congress and now the fall of rupee is natural value. Every knows the loose tongue of Niti Aayog chairman who boasted about aadhar card and got jacked.

Now they are expecting our Indian currency will by 17%. What a tragedy. Still these officials are not ashamed of themselves rather defending their failures.

What Modi said during 2014 election, BJP govt will bring the Indian Rupeess to USD less than Rs. 30 and now one can see BJP govt failures in naked eyes. Still anybody want to believe Modii and want to vote for him, it is their choice. They could not even clean Ganga river, what one can expect from them, except bashan but nothing more than that.
