Murder of seers sparks tension in UP town, two policemen suspended

Lucknow, Aug 15 (IANS): Killing of two Hindu seers in Auraiyya of Uttar Pradesh has triggered protests and tension in the district, and two policemen have been put under suspension for dereliction of duty, an official said on Wednesday.

Those suspended are Inspector In-charge of Bidhoona Police Station Akhilesh Mishra and Constable Islam.

The two seers were hacked to death in the Bhayanaknath temple in Kudarkot area of Bidhoona on the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday and another was injured after which angry people took to the streets and staged demonstrations on highways.

The twin murders came to light in the morning after which senior police and district officials, including District Magistrate (DM) Shrikant Mishra and Superintendent of Police (SP) Nageshwar Singh rushed to the crime scene to pacify the irate mob.

Forces from several police stations were also rushed to the spot after which the crowds went wild and there was a skirmish between people and the police.

Crowds allege that the two deceased were murdered after they informed the police about cows being taken for slaughtering by some local persons of a community.

A senior official told IANS that a probe has been ordered and the guilty will be brought to book at the earliest. While the two seers -- Lajja Ram and Halkeram -- were killed, another one -- Ram Sharan has been critically wounded.

All the three were found tied to their cots and their bodies attacked with some sharp weapons. Tongue of one of the deceased had also been slit.

A senior police official informed that the situation was tense but under control for now. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

It seems BJP's early preparation for 2019 Lok Sabha elections to stoke communal tension like Muzzafarnagar. In 2014 they have emotive issue of 'Love Jihad'. Now they are escalating 'Gau Raksha'.

It is not possible to murder Such high priest when his own moral army of 'Hindu yuva vahini' is patrolling the street and law enforcement officers looking for more heads for encounter.

Find out from somebody - in UP the stray cow/bulls have become so rampant, that farmers got their children removed from schools in order to guard their farms. Some have stopped tilling/sowing because at any given time the herd barges in and devours all that is available. All Gau-Shaalas are full, no more animals are being admitted as there is no place.

Going by the trend, if the bill comes into effect, I am sure the opposition will start from farming community of UP. The politicians don't care what a common man (farmer) is going through, they just want votes, even by keeping the cow as a trump card.

Kamath, This henious act has to be condemned , the perpetrators of this terrible crime have to be dealt with in an urgent manner & the strictest of punishment should be accorded. However if cows cannot be consumed because they are revered for domestic purpose, then cows should not be exported to international markets. But this is never going to happen , why because the value of Rupee is going to plumment . It could be 140 rupees to a dollar. Next time when these people protest against beef consumption ,they should also protest against beef exports.

    Alan
You say "when these ppl protest against beef consumption" here to whom you want to mention the seers?, they have not protested about beef they only complained to the authorities about this. Do you think complaining to the authority is a crime? Read the news before commenting. And you can't expect ppl to protest for export and not for consumption.

The incident is very unfortunate and the culprits should be punished. Considering the sentiments of Hindus, slaughter of cows that is allowed in some states and the export of cow meat should be banned totally. Why Hindus allow this in some states and export, while they are saying cow is mother and God, no one understands.
