Mangaluru, Aug 14: Normal life went for a toss in the twin districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi due to the heavy downpour with high-velocity winds that has been lashing since two days. The rain is likely to continue till August 15.
More than 100 electric poles were uprooted because of the gust of wind. The body of a person who was drowned on Sunday at Venoor is found on Monday.
A tree fell on the house of Lalita, a resident of Balmatta on Monday, Aug 13 and damaged part of the house. A tree fell on the electric wire at Padu Badinadi near Neermarga. It was cleared by the local youths. More than 500 tiles were damaged at Kulshekar church.

Traffic was affected for some time near State Bank branch at Kulshekar as a tree fell across the road. The house of Madhava T Mendon collapsed at Idya Suratkal. A tree fell near Bondel church .
The national highway got blocked at Panambur on the evening of Monday. The queue of vehicles stretched up to Kulur. The potholes on the Kulur bridge were completely covered with water and the vehicle drivers were driving very slowly in order to avoid any danger. This caused the traffic to get jammed.
In Savanalu village more than 25 electric poles were uprooted. In the city, more than 40 electric poles fell to the ground as the trees or branches of trees fell on them in areas like Kulshekar, Shakthinagar, Neermarga, Kudupu, Mallikatta, and Adyar.
Holiday is declared on August 14 for schools and colleges including degree and other professional course institutions in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts by the respective deputy commissioners.
Rain found pace in the district of Udupi on Monday and there is a likelihood of many areas getting flooded. In the city and outskirts of the district, rain is pouring unabated since the afternoon of Monday. Kalsanka water drain is overflowing and the nearby areas of Bailakere, Matadabettu, and Moodanidambooru are on the verge of being flooded.
More than 50 houses got damaged in Pernankila of Kaup taluk due to the storm. In the taluk of Udupi, 23 houses got damaged.
The areas around the famous Kollur temple received rain throughout the day on Monday. The devotees offered pooja with wet clothes.
