Kadaba, Aug 13: In an incident that occurred on the evening of Sunday, August 12, rural circle inspector of police (CPI) of Puttur threatened the home guard, who was manning the gate at Hosamata Bridge near Kadaba and got the protective gate opened and drove the jeep in a dangerous manner in the gushing floodwater.

Traffic was stopped on both sides of the Hosamata Bridge from the afternoon of Sunday itself as the floodwater was flowing above the bridge. The CPI did not pay heed to the warning and alert of locals as well as the home guard and got the vehicle driven across the bridge. When the home guard personnel at the other end of the bridge questioned the CPI on violating the instructions, he ignored them and went towards Kadaba.

Public outrage on discrimination

Once the CPI crossed the bridge, the locals, who were waiting near the gate, tried to cross their vehicles also. However, the home guards closed the gates immediately and prevented the vehicles from crossing the bridge. The public, who got infuriated by this, vented their anger on the priority given only to the police department and not the public.

A month before also when there was a similar situation on this bridge, the police vehicle had taken advantage and the locals had made the video of the same and shared it on social sites, which had created embarrassment to the police department. Now the action of CPI has maligned the name of the police department again.

District commandant of home guard, Dr Murali Mohan Chuntaru said that acts of this nature diminish the morale of the home guards. He has raised this issue with deputy commissioner (DC) and superintendent of police (SP) and urged them to conduct an inquiry on the incident.

Dr B R Ravikante Gowda, SP of Dakshina Kannada said that he is not aware of this incident and promised to investigate the matter by seeking information from the concerned.
