Bengaluru to be poster free, with Mayor's clean-up drive

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Aug 11: Mayor R Sampath Raj is all set to make Bengaluru a poster free city. Along with BBMP, ruling party leader M Shivaraju and other corporators, he initiated a poster removal drive across the city on Saturday, August 11.

While he removed the posters near Cauvery Guest House on Palace Road, he said simultaneously 198 corporators across the city are taking part in the drive and are being helped by BBMP pourakarmikas.

The drive aims to improve the city aesthetics, making it free of wall posters and hand-written messages. The drive will also continue on Sunday.

The Mayor has given a call for Bengalureans to take part in the drive.

The poster removal is a self-driven initiative taken up by the Mayor. It is interesting to note that on August 1, BBMP was on their toes after Karnataka High Court ordered the civic body to remove illegal banners/flex boards across the city and set the deadline on the same day before 2.30 pm. BBMP sprang into action pulling down over 5000 banners and submitted a petition to the court to extend the deadline till August 2.

After the hoardings are gone, it seems the Mayor wants to ensure the city gets back its aesthetic charm and hence initiated the poster clean-up drive.

Clean up drive is good. But the spirit must continue. The corporation must have a team of staff , their duty is to clean and remove the posters around the city. If posters are found these people must held responsible.

Please clear the garbage in Bangalore. Authorities and city corporation Mann the waste management in Bangalore because this city is pride of India. So many international companies and Bangalore is on the world map. How can a foreign tourist see a city without garbage container? When I throw garbage where every one throws I feel guilty and ashamed but lack of garbage container I am also one of those who throw garbage at roadside

Instead of Mayor going and removing posters...... Just see the person or any political party is responsible, call them and warn them and ask them itself to remove the poster. If its is not removed or repeated the offence second time penalise them.

Wonderful initiative. The appearance of a clean city can come thru so many ways, and this is one way to keep unwanted posters awat fro all over the walls, homes and buildings. Bill Boards could be one of the solution to the problem. Even the Bill Boards need be standardized in sizes, shapes, lighting etc.

Initially, it will be difficult to convince all people, but once people get used to the rules and regulations, and once they are being punished for any kind of violation, they will eventually learn the lessons and help to restore order and tidiness all over the place.

Yes. Bangalore needs clean up and then to maintain cleanliness dustbins is a necessity. Garbage is thrown in any vacant land or even on city roadside just because dustbins are not provided. Another thing I noted on pavements shopkeepers have extended their business so that pedistrians use roads to walk. Where is the corporation?
