Mangaluru: Swords-wielding gang threatens family, steals two jersey cows

Mangaluru, Jul 19: A six-member gang which entered the cattle shed belonging to Purushotham from Moodushedde near here threatened family members by brandishing their swords. The gang succeeded in taking away two milking jersey cows.

Value of the cows so stolen has been estimated at Rs 45,000.

The miscreants arrived at the cattle shed at about 3 am on Tuesday July 17. When the family members woke up at the sound made by the animals and went to check, the miscreants threatened them by pointing the swords they possessed with them. They also killed the dog of the family and created an environment of terror. They took away the two cows forcefully. The family members said that all the gang members were aged between 25 and 30.

A total of 21 cows have been stolen so far from the area since sometime. The locals have sought protection from the police. Police officials visited the spot and conducted scrutiny. A case about this theft was registered in Kavoor police station.

MLA, Umanath Kotian, visited the spot. He urged the police to nab the cattle thieves and book them under the Goonda Act.

This might be true or this might be stage managed show, as election are nearing.

First of all, the owner of the cows, say, at 3.00 am , the sword wielding gang threaten the family members and stole 2 jersey cows. Even if it is true, the operation will take at least 30 minutes. Every family will have one or 2 minimum mobile telephone. Why they have not informed the police nor the neighbours. At least the neighbour would have called others too and would have come to help this family.

Immediate visit by local MLA also give rise to doubts, might be genuine, might be stage managed show.

Dear Herald please come and check the facts with people of karkala city where gang threatening is common at night & myself experienced it. I lost two cows infront of my eyes. Hope God will show like experiences to each and everyone who supports because these thieves confidence reaching all time high.

If the facts of cow stealing is real, then it is really a matter of seriousness. If the police are inactive means, then might be police and these cow thieves are hand in gloves.

I still remember in my mothers house, they used have 3 local dogs, as they are from village, agriculturist, had more than 3 to 4 cows and they too come under Karkala Taluk.

No one is blaming any community here. Stealing cow was a earlier issue, now there is armed robbery happening everywhere for cow. I don't think it will end there.
The greed to make fast money will push them to start armed robbery of people for valuables. Our police was in the first case controlled by appeasement politicians not to act against theft, now its a bigger organized problem and police have no clue.
Its not about religions, armed robbery is a serious matter.

With general elections nearing, many such orchestrated incidents will happen to polarize people and create an environment of hate.

This should be thoroughly investigated and whoever is responsible should be brought to book, exposed and punished and made an example of.

Of-course cow is an animal but remember it becomes part of the family & the owner of it will have an emotional attachment like with any other family member. Any domesticated animal owners will know the pain of loosing a beloved pet. The laws should be changed and culprits must ROT in jail for such acts.

Candidates from VHP, BD must contest elections from the constituencies where cow are stolen or butchered.

My Vote to these candidates for Damsure. Not only mere vote but also vigorous campaign for their victory for next 50 years in every elections.
They must do everything possible to stop these nefarious acts of violence to Cows, Farmers and common man. BJP is soft now to these cow stealers. Preservation of all Indigenous breeds must be encouraged by our Government.
