Nearly 50,000 people died on railway tracks after being hit by trains in last 3 years

New Delhi, Jul 18 (PTI): Nearly 50,000 people have lost their lives in the last three years on railway tracks after being hit by trains, Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. He said 49,790 deaths were reported between 2015-2017.

Deaths on railway tracks occur due to trespassing, violating safety and cautionary instructions, avoiding over bridges, using mobile phones and other electronic gadgets while crossing railway tracks, Gohain said.

The minister said the railways had taken corrective measures like regular announcements through passenger address system at stations urging passengers to use foot over bridges (FOBs), awareness drives against trespassing were conducted, construction of boundary walls, warning signs were erected to prevent accidental deaths on railway tracks.

Unauthorised trespassing on railway premises, including the track, is a punishable offence under Section 147 of the Railways Act, 1989. During 2017, a total of 173112 people were prosecuted for trespassing.

Most of the cases were reported from the Northern Railway with 7908 deaths, followed by 6149 deaths in the Southern Railway and 5670 deaths in the Eastern Railway, Gohain said.

What a sad message to read that more than 50000 lives have been lost for the past 3 years thru Railway accidents in India. What a sad destiny in a country where Railway travel is most economical and convenient mode of travel. Indian Railways are one of the oldest and efficient mode of travel throughout India. Reliable information reveals that more than six million people commute thru Railway each in the City of Mumbai.

Fifty thousand lives are equally precious for India. These are precious lives who have so much to give back to the Nation. We have to find ways and means of helping our Railway travel and make it more safer and more economical when the population is exceeding every day.

God, please help us to take care of our people, while we take care of ourselves.

Modi govt has tried to reduce our country's population by using many methods like Demonetization, Lynchings, Communal violence, abetting to suicide, raping, unsafe railway tracks etc.
Modi govt has not spared even our army jawans. Due to his incompetency and lack of experience, our soldiers are dying at the border on daily basis because of the cross border terror.
