Mangaluru, Jul 12: One of Mangaluru’s loved radio jockeys, MJ Errol, famously known as RJ Errol, is all set to make his debut on the silver screen in multi-starrer Kannada movie ‘Gvana Yajna’. Errol who this year completes seven years as an RJ in Big FM, has kept Mangaluru hooked to the radio with ‘U Me and Love' programme which is aired from 12pm to 4pm.

Not just that, he is famed for interviewing numerous celebrities and renowned personalities, his voice has a soothing effect on listeners and he has mastered the art of building rapport with people within seconds.

Errol is not only inclined towards hosting music shows, but also shows keen interest in taking up the initiatives that are pro-social and which bring about a positive change. He has hosted a 15 hour nonstop marathon on the concept 'Paani Bachao' creating awareness among people on water conservation and involving celebrities like Saina Nehwal, Rakshith Shetty, and Dr Veerendra Heggade in the show.

Along with the district police, he conducted Big Traffic Guru, to create traffic awareness through pantomimicry at traffic signals. In the year 2013, a fund raising event for Endosulfan victims was conducted at Puttur.

In his last seven years in Big FM, Errol has interviewed over 350 celebrities including Sonu Nigam, Sudeep, Rakshith Shetty, Sania Mirza, Kailash Satyarthi, Annadurai, Saina Nehwal and many others.

Speaking about his journey, Errol says, "I have built good rapport with the people and to convince celebrities to talk over phone is really a challenging task. I used to travel to Mumbai, Hyderabad on my own interest to interview the celebrities. I am always grateful to my company for their constant support for whatever I have achieved today. The company has always backed me up when I come up with new initiatives or creative ideas.”

Errol credits success in his life to Radio. “Through radio I have earned love from people and this is most special to my heart. Radio has given me a new life and brought changes in me. I want to say that all good things happen in the right time but we need to wait for it,” he says.

When asked if radio is a dying medium, he says that radio listeners have increased. “It could be due to traffic chaos in the city. Usually when vehicles are stuck in the traffic they tune in to radio,” he says.

On the other hand, Errol is one of the craziest fans of Sachin Tendulkar and Shahrukh Khan. Whenever Errol pays visit to Mumbai he never forgets to click selfies at the entrance of Tendulkar's residence.

Speaking about his craze for Tendulkar, Errol said," When I was young, I was very curious to know why people are speaking a lot about Tendulkar. I started reading news papers, magazines just to know about his life style, his journey. This made way for me to step into journalism field. I am eagerly waiting for the day when I get to meet Sachin Tendulkar and Shahrukh Khan.”

Speaking about his fond memories in his seven year journey as an RJ, Errol said, “In the year 2012, I had spoken in my show about my dream of travelling in a flight. But surprisingly within a week, a well wisher had sent me a flight ticket, which was the most exciting moment of my life.”

Errol is happily married to Wilma Serrao who is a journalism lecturer, a perfect match for him, he says. She too loves travelling and is very supportive towards his career.

“I have seen many ups and downs. Due to some unfortunate circumstances in my family, I got to see my sister after 29 years. I am grateful to Naveen Bhat Elanthila who has supported me in my initial days of my career and owe a lot to my parents, wife, friends and my well wishers,” he says.

Errol always dreamt of being an actor and now even this dream is coming true through film ‘Gvana Yajna’ directed by Shivu Saralebettu and produced by Kiram Rai and Ranjan Shetty.

"Success, achievement, good things happen but we need to wait. Learn to dream big and don’t end up your life in short,” is Errol’s message to all.
