SIT sleuths 'abducted' Gauri murder-accused days before arrest, alleges advocate

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (DC)

Bengaluru, Jun 20: An advocate assisting the Gauri Lankesh accused in court has claimed that the police had 'abducted' the accused before officially arresting them.

Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar, president of ‘Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad’ (HVP) was quoted by Deccan Chronicle saying that the SIT sleuths had abducted Sujeet alias Praveen (37) an alleged Hindu Janjagruti Samiti (HJS) activist from Mangaluru, Amol Kale alias Bhaisab, 39, also an alleged HJS activist from Pune, Amit Degwekar alias Pradeep, 39, a Sanatan Sanstha activist and resident of Goa, and Manohar Edave, 28, a resident of Vijayapura in Karnataka.

He further told Deccan Chronicle, "The accused were detained by the SIT much before their arrest was shown. Sujeet was picked up from coastal Karnataka on May 6, but his arrest was shown from Kolar on May 20. Amol and Amit were detained in Kagal in Kolhapur district on Maharashtra-Karnataka border on May 14. Edave was picked up from Kolhapur the same day, but the arrest of the three was shown on May 20 and 21 in Bengaluru. They were in illegal custody of the SIT before their arrest.

"The Karnataka SIT is working on the same lines as the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), which during its investigation of the 2008 Malegaon blast case had illegally detained Sadhvai Pragya and Sudhakar Chaturvedi before showing their arrest," he added.

Ichalkaranjikar also alleged that in order to extend the police custody of the accused the SIT sleuths imposed false cases of eliminating K S Bhagawan and Gauri Lankesh murder on them. “After the Bhagawan conspiracy, now they are saying that they could be involved in the murder of Prof M.M. Kalburgi. The SIT has held the accused in illegal and legal custody for so long that by now they should have extracted all information from them and solved the the Gauri murder case if they were really involved. The initial FIR, which was registered against them in Upparpete police station in the Bhagawan conspiracy case under the Arms Act case was a ploy by the police to extend the police custody. The case is bogus,” he said.

Meanwhile, Chetan Rajhans, spokesperson of 'Sanatan Sanstha' stated that the other than Amit Degwekar, none of the accused arrested in Gauri murder were linked to the organisation. Rajhans said, "Degwekar is a promoter of ‘Sanatan Prabha’ and he used to tour a lot for its promotion. He used to come to the ashram in Ponda, in South Goa in connection with his work.

"The Sanstha is involved in the spiritual enhancement of Hindus. We are not killers. There is no connection between the Sanatan Sanstha and Gauri murder. We didn’t know her. It is a political conspiracy to target the SS. The Sanstha is blamed for the murder of any atheist or Communist in the country because our presence affects their functioning and business. Gauri was an atheist and she was killed when Siddaramaiah, who is an atheist, was the chief minister. It’s high time the main players behind the conspiracy to tarnish the Sanstha are exposed," he said.

Those of you who say the arrests were just for eye wash, must set up a detective agency and find a person who actually killed Gauri Lankesh. Else, just shut up and let the officers do their duty. If one of you were killed in place of this woman, the law would still have been followed and the killers caught whether or not the killers/victim belong to any organization.

Whether the journalist was a believer or an atheist, is irrelevant because she is an Indian and she must be given justice by punishing her killers. This is applicable for all of us if we get killed. There can't be a different law to a different religion follower.

Is it that important as from where they were arrested, when they were arrested than the fact that they are the accused in the Gauri Lankesh murder case? Doesn't the lawyer know what is detention and what is arrest? Police usually detain suspects for investigation and if the investigation gives them some clues, then the arrest is made. Isn't it a usual procedure? Let this lawyer go to Court and prove his allegations. Whatever the police might come up with, ultimately they have prove that in the Court with documentary and other evidences. If police really wanted to plant some story and arrest someone not connected with the case, they would have done it much earlier. In fact if the government or Congress was involved in pressuring the police, they would have done it before elections so that they could reap electoral benefits. Why they had to wait for 9 long months? And the officer leading the SIT is known for his uprightness and no-non-sense attitude. So if someone says that police have botched up the investigation, they are nothing but sympathizers of the murderers and the ones who celebrated Gauri's death.

The main accused Parashuram Waghmare himself has given details of the plot and all his statements, entire investigation is video recorded so that he may not turn hostile or complain that police tortured him to give favourable statements. So if someone has some other information than what police has given, why they don't move the Court, taking legal recourse instead of giving press statements?

The broader trend of “legal activism” by right wing groups is of course emerging in the backdrop of the first edition (2012) of the All India Hindu Convention, an annual convention jointly organised by the Sanatan Sanstha and its affiliate group the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti in Goa. At the first edition, the organisers had called for Hindu lawyers to defend members of the community who were jailed and facing trials in various cases across the country. This demand was reiterated in the sixth edition of the convention in June 2017, which was reportedly attended by 132 Hindu outfits. Consequently, several nationalist legal-rights groups that are headed by former RSS members or members of its legal wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Adhivakta Parishad have cropped up
Advocate Virendra Ichalkaranjikar, president of ‘Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad’ (HVP) is another organisation within RSS increasing trend within legal community to browbeat based on communal agendas.
Yesterday's report it was torture now abduction. This is the proof that RSS is supporting the terrorist who hoisted Pakistani flag on Indian soil through legal system.

Were they planning another murder? under orders from the ‘Hindu Vidhidnya Parishad’ (HVP)?

Sidhdhu had intelligence report that Congis are going to lose election few months before it. Its even possible that Sidhdhu might have enacted this killing just few months before the election to gain votes in the name of sickularism . Just like dividing Veerashivas and Lingayats - a few days before the election ... he thought it was a master stroke,.. but turned out to be huge blunder!

It was very clear from the word 'go' that it was match fixing. With public pressure mounting, the Congi Govt had to desperately cover their inefficiencies and hence had this whole thing staged. Some hotte manja was 'arrested' . He was inside for quite some time tortured to reveal some name . Then followed by another so called arrest to a individual whose physically matched the CCTV footage. Who knows perhaps its their own person who has admitted his crime and will soon be released with lack of evidence or some time in jail. When the public forgets he may be released on good conduct.
