Man lynched over cow slaughter rumour in UP, cops claim it was 'road rage'

Hapur, Jun 20 (HT): A 38-year-old cattle trader was lynched and a 65-year-old man severely injured by a mob allegedly on suspicion of cow slaughter in Hapur’s Bajhera Khurd village, 50km from Delhi-UP border, on Monday.

The incident took place when chief minister Yogi Adityanath was holding a meeting with BJP MPs and MLAs in Ghaziabad and the police were on high alert.

The village is barely 10km from Dadri’s Bisada where 55-year-old Mohammad Ikhlaq was lynched in 2015 on suspicion of consuming cow meat.

Eyewitnesses said the men — Qasim, 38, and Shamiuddin, 65— were spotted by villagers of Madhpura Mustafabad and a mob soon gathered. “Shamiuddin had gone to Madhpura to get fodder for cattle. Qasim met him there. It is possible that my brother was attacked because he was spotted with Qasim, a cattle trader,” Mohammad Yaseen, Shamiuddin’s brother, told HT at Dev Nandini Hospital in Hapur.

“They beat them and dragged them for nearly a kilometre to a temple complex. The duo was further assaulted after a rumour circulated among villagers that the men were trying to slaughter cows,” Yaseen said.

Ekadashi Giri, a priest of the temple in Bajhera, said, “One of the men was lying near the temple complex, while the other was further dragged and dumped near the main gate of the temple.”

“The mob was armed with sticks. They were screaming at the two men and accusing them of having tethered cows in order to slaughter them,” Shahid, of Madhpura, said.

“The police handed me one cow and a calf. They took away the animals on Tuesday,” Sudheer Rana, a local, said.

Police said they rescued the men from near the temple and rushed them to the hospital. Qasim succumbed to injuries.

“My brother bought cattle and sold them in markets of Asoda and Gulaothi. Around 2.30pm, we got a call informing us about the incident,” Qasim’s brother, said.

Police denied that the men were attacked over cow slaughter rumours. They claimed the attack was a fallout of a road rage incident. According to the FIR filed by Yaseen, the motorcycle Qasim and Shamiuddin were riding on collided with the bike of a youth from Bajhera. The accident led to an altercation and a mob attacked Qasim and Shamiuddin. The FIR was filed at Pilkhuwa police station.

“There were rumours of cow slaughter, but we did not find any cow or weapon used for slaughtering animals with the two victims,” Sankalp Sharma, superintendent of police, Hapur, said.

As per the statement of dead Qasim’s son, Mahtab told NewsClick.in: “I remember that my father got a call at 11 in the morning on Monday. The caller told him that some cattle need to be sold. He also asked him to come to the neighbour village, Bajhaida Khurd, so he left. We got another call at about 2 in the afternoon only to find out that he has died. This looks like a conspiracy. It needs to be investigated.”
“Preliminary reports suggest beating of two people, and the fight was triggered after a motorbike hit some people. One person died and another one was assaulted,” SP Hapur Sankalp Sharma.

This is the new trend from the so called 'Gau Aatankwadi' to attack Muslim traders in particular to steal the $5 billion business and emphasis on 'beef exports' that directly benefits BJP government by providing political funding.
In Udupi one cattle trader was similarly murdered and now RSS is providing legal assistance to both cops and accused giving bail. The Bhartiya Gau Raksha Dal claims that it has 50 affiliated organisations with about 10,000 volunteers. But hundreds of other self-appointed cow protection groups have sprung up all over the country. Delhi is believed to have 200 such groups, and the Una region of Gujarat is believed to have an equal number. On July 1, 2016, 35 gau rakshaks attacked seven Dalits for skinning a cow that had been killed by a lion, in a village adjoining the Gir forest, accused them of slaughtering it, beat them with iron rods and sticks, then kidnapped 4 of them, took them to Una, tied them to a car, and flogged them publicly through the town. The perpetrators videographed the beating, replaced their screams with an overlay of soothing western classical music, and uploaded their tape onto YouTube.
The first Parliament attack took place in 1966 and was carried out by gau rakshaks.42 years after the emergency, India's democracy is once again in danger. The all out attacks show that the BJP and the Modi have no regard for democracy.

Charan, the thing is that these BJP, BD and militant outfits are also not respecting the food habits of not only Muslims but even a large section of Indian backward people! You people are trying to impose brahminical culture on everyone and that's the root cause of all problems!. Let's all respect cows and not slaughter it for food but what is the problem if buffallo meat is allowed!. When you try to ban all cattle, It simply means you are doing with a purpose which is definitely not religious!. Before 1990's, this issue of theft or eating beef was not a problem!. Beef was available in plenty as all old cows were sold to slaughter houses by everyone!. Because people required money to buy a new cow!. All this started with the rise of BJP in early 1990's in the name of hindutva and imposing of North Indian culture on the south Indian people!. You think rationally and reply!

all political agenda... that's it. After congress lost central in 2014 and Modi / BJP took over, they are not able to digest it. so, all these terms... Intolerance, secularism, anti-Hindu , anti Musilm , anti nationality, anti Minority... given a completely different picture for BJP and RSS which were famous as Pro National organizations.... given such a wrong image to those... Created scenes in Kashmir... Media started a huge propaganda .... All these are Triggered by congress just to ensure , first they Stop Modi and BJP do show progress and Development in India . Secondly to get back their ancestor power in Central, with out which they can not breath. That's it. all these incidents are given national focus, modified as they want.... videos and pictured are morphed... everything is courtesy Congress. Unfortunately one sector is not able to accept this hard truth and act blind.... for the tunes of Italy queen and honorable prince.

It's very simple, cow vigilantes take law into their hands as they have patronage from the ruling government. If Yogi had issued strict orders against lynchings based on earlier incidents people would not dare to take law into their own hands. Sooner than later citizens will revolt against Yogi's government. Just wait and watch.
