Udupi: Motor bike hits electric pole - rider dies

Udupi, May 28: A youth lost his life after the motor bike he was riding hit an electric pole on the night of Saturday May 26. The accident happened at the winding road near Mariyamma temple, Uppoor Kolalagiri in the taluk.

The victim of the accident has been identified as Keerti Kumar (23) from Udyavara. The accident happened at around 11.50 pm on Saturday.

It is gathered that Keerti Kumar was returning home after attending a Mehndi programme. After he lost control over the two-wheeler, the motor bike hit an electric pole and jumped into the agricultural field below. Keerti suffered extensive injuries in the accident. His friends, who came that way a little while later, saw what had happened and took him to a private hospital in the town. In spite of the best efforts of the doctors, his life could not be saved.

Ranjith P Ambiga from Honnavar Manki, who was in the pillion, also sustained injuries. Ambiga is being treated in a hospital.

Both Kumar and Ambiga work for a jewellery store in the city.They had attended the Mahndi programme of a colleague on Saturday evening along with friends and colleagues, it is said.

The locals said that a dangerous bend located at the accident spot has caused several accidents in the past too and urged the authorities to provide protective railing to save people from becoming accident victims.
