Bengaluru: Congress releases another audio: Muralidhar Rao, Sriramulu speaking to MLA Patil

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 19: The Congress, which had earlier released an audio clip, where one can hear purported conversation between chief minister B S Yeddyurappa trying to poach Congress Hirekerur MLA B C Patil, has again released another audio clip of B C Patil being offered bribe by BJP's Sriramulu and Muralidhar Rao.

In the purported conversation, Molakalmuru MLA B Sriramulu is asking B C Patil "What amount are you expecting?"

He further assures that there won’t be re-election even if he cross votes as there won't be any disqualification of MLAs.

"Don't worry, there won't be any election. We will elect our speaker and show the majority. Like in Andhra and Telangana, there won't be any disqualification of MLAs. So you don't have to worry about Election," he is heard saying.

The phone is then passed allegedly to Muralidhar Rao, BJP's National General Secretary. He too purportedly tells Patil that there won't be any re-election.

"Game of Congress' dirty tricks department": Muralidhar Rao

However, Muralidhar Rao has taken to twitter to deny bribing allegations. "The Congress day in and day out indulging in fake tricks. BJP has never indulged in any bribing. It is the game of Congress's dirty tricks department," he tweeted.

A floor test will be held on May 19 at 4 PM in the Karnataka Assembly where Yeddyurappa needs to prove majority to stay in power.

According to sources, Congress has lodged two FIRs against BJP for offering a bribe to its MLAs.

Transcript of the purported audio conversation between Sriramulu, Muralidhar Rao and Patil.

Sriramulu: Will make them Ministers

B C Patil: In my constituency, UB Banakar is strong. Of there is re-election, there will be a problem.

Sriramulu: Don't worry, there won't be any Election. We will elect our speaker and show the majority. Like in Andhra and Telangana, there won't be any disqualification of MLAs. So you don't have to worry about Election. I will now give the phone to Muralidhar Rao, you speak to him.

The governor's office is expected to exercise constitutional and political morality because it's an office that by far is beyond the purview of the courts.
Democracy is on sale. Turns out it's also affordable. MLAs ferried in buses and locked in resorts. Each time there is a fractured mandate, the aftermath gets uglier.
"MLA shopping", "resort politics", "Operation Kamala" — there aren't enough names and expressions, apprehensions and persuasions to describe the current scenario following the split mandate in Karnataka.

If horse-trading is betrayal of people's mandate, there seems to be no force — courts, election commission, president or any other agency — capable of stopping political parties from betraying the voters.

Even though the media, civil society and a few opposition parties (depending on their political convenience) may criticise and desperately look for ways to stop the menace of poaching and "buying and selling" of MLAs, truth be told, even the law at present is ill-equipped to deal with it.

Defection is not an offence under the Representation of People Act, 1951. It doesn't lead to a member getting debarred from contesting elections. One could argue, that this lacuna in law has been exploited by all political parties. The Constitution left it to the discretion of the electorate whether a member should be re-elected or not.

An essential argument could be to bring this offence under the Representation of People’s Act, 1951, which may lead to disqualification of legislators from contesting elections. However, even this change of law won't be without its share of controversy. This will require a serious legislative approach and a broad political consensus — something that's part of political maturity which is currently missing in Indian polity.

Making fake CD and videos with modern technology and software available is not a difficult job now... Any body could fix photos, clippings and even words in between to give a audibe and viewable CD . We have seen many such videos on social media during this election.... So... hand over that info. to investigating agencies and Reseach institutions to get the validity of such creation... Dont simply display or make to hear on TV channels... come out with proper facts... Let us see who is behind this FAKE CD ... like roumers spread recently about Church attacks few days back in this portal..... Arrest those culprits and punish them legally... CONGRESS just can not run away by HIT AND RUN Tactics...
