Puttur, May 17: A huge explosion occurred in an old building where Kadaba police station was previously housed, at about 7 pm on Wednesday May 16. The explosion resulted in cracks in the walls and shattered tiles of the roof.

This building is currently being used by home guards as office of their Kadaba unit. Two home guards personnel, who were inside the building, had gone out a few minutes before the explosion ripped the building apart. As such, they escaped from an impending disaster.

The sound of explosion was heard and thick smoke billowing out of the building was seen by people up to a radius of five kilometres from the spot. Many people rushed towards the building. It was seen that window glasses of some vehicles parked nearby had been shattered and window glasses of some houses were broken.

Although it is suspected that explosives seized in some case by the police in the past and stored in the building would have gone off, so far no convincing reasons could be attributed to explain the explosion. Deputy superintendent of police from Puttur, Srinivas, and rural police circle inspector, Gopal Naik, visited the spot and conducted inspection. Kadaba police sub-inspector, Prakash Devadiga, explained to the senior officials about the explosion.

Explosives experts have been summoned. A definite conclusion can be arrived at only after they come here and undertake scrutiny.
