Mysuru: Two friends drown in River Cauvery

Mysuru, May 3: Two young men, who together went to River Cauvery at Mudukuthore bathing bay near a well-known religious centre in T Narasipur taluk in the district on Wednesday May 2, drowned.

The deceased youth have been identified as Monish (20) from Bengaluru, and Prajwal (18), native of Narayanapura village in Malavalli taluk, Mandya district.

The two had planned to visit Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Mudukuthore together. On the way, just before entering the temple, they decided to play in river water. Monish, who was the first to enter the river, began to shout for help as he did not know how to swim. Prajwal rushed to help his friend but he too drowned in the river, police personnel stated.

Both the bodies were retrieved with help from firemen and local fishermen.
