Bengaluru: Comfortable majority for Congress in Karnataka elections - C fore survey

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Mar 26: With just over a month remaining for the crucial Karnataka Assembly elections, a pre-poll survey by C fore has revealed that the ruling Congress is set for another innings in the state. The survey predicts a comfortable majority for the Congress, with BJP coming second.

The survey reveals that the Congress is likely to win 126 seats, or 46 percent of the total votes, a positive swing of 9 percent as compared to the 2013 election result.

BJP on the other had is likely to win in about 70 seats, translating into 31 percent of the vote share, with a positive swing of about 11 percent. JD(S) is likely to get 16 percent of the votes and may win in about 27 constituencies.

The JD(S) is experiencing a negative swing of 4 percent mainly because of the exodus of its Muslim and Dalit votes to Congress, the survey shows. In Hyderabad Karnataka, Bengaluru and Old Mysore region the Congress is ahead by a huge margin.

In the coastal region which has a total of 19 seats, it is going to be tough fight between the Congress and the BJP. The Congress presently occupies 7 of the 8 Assembly constituencies in Dakshina Kannada and all the seats in Udupi except Karkala. However, as per the survey, the BJP is likely to see a 12 percent swing in its favour.

BJP is ahead in central Karnataka, that includes Yeddyurappa's stronghold Shivamogga, Davangere and Chitradurga.

C fore conducted the pre-poll survey in Karnataka between March 1 and March 25. Systematic random sampling methodology was used in selecting respondents for the survey. In all, 22,357 voters were interviewed from 154 Assembly constituencies covering all districts using a structured questionnaire. These respondents were spread across 2,368 polling booths covering 326 urban and 977 rural locations in the state. The samples represent different castes and communities in their actual proportion. The survey has a margin of error of 1 percentage point at 95 percent confidence level.

When it comes to popularity of chief ministers, Siddaramaiah was way ahead with 45 percent of the voters choosing him over BJP's Yeddyurappa, who was the choice of only 26 percent of the electorate. Only 13 percent of the voters chose JD(S) chief H D Kumaraswamy.

On the performance of the present Congress government, 21 percent said they were extremely satisfied, and 54 percent said they were somewhat satisfied, and 25 percent expressed dissatisfaction.

The survey also reveals that the separate religion status to Lingayats may indeed be advantageous to the Congress, with 61 percent of the Lingayats supporting the move.

On who did more for the poor, the farmers, the women, the Dalits, the backwards classes and SC/ST, the Congress was far ahead of the BJP, reinforcing the Congress' vote share.

To a question on who was responsible for the PNB scam involving Nirav Modi, 56 percent of the surveyed voters felt BJP was to be blamed, while 14 percent felt it was the Congress. As much as 41 percent of the voters also felt Amit Shah misused his position to help his son Jay Shah allegedly increase his company's turnover.

CM Siddaramaiah's action to erase Hindi signages in metro statations in Bengaluru found support in 92 percent of the voters, and 59 percent agreed with the CM that the BJP was trying to impose Hindi in Karnataka. The opinion on demonetisation was mixed, with 48 percent feeling that it was good for the country, and 52 percent saying it was bad. However, 64 percent of the voters felt GST was implemented without proper planning while 36 percent felt it was good for the economy.

The voters who were surveyed said that shortage of drinking water was the main problem facing them, followed by drainage issues and garbage disposal.

Its nice to see such positive survey in favour of Congress in Karnataka and of course they deserve for it. And it would be fair and Siddaramaiah Government deserve to win and rule for one more term. I am saying this because Siddu and his team to a miximum extent has given a clean and scam free government with many pro people schemes irrespect of Religion, Caste, Creed. And they succeeded in implementing most of their pre election promises. And one must appreciate the good work whole heartedly inspite of their loyalty or support to any of the political parties to Siddhu and his government. Let us all support him once again this election, keeping aside our political differences for the welfare of the State and people and let us live in peace and harmony. Jai Karanataka and Jai Hind.

46% vote share for congress and just 126 seats ? With this vote share, they should get at least 2/3 majority. When BJP, KJP and Ramulu was separate, they got around 50 seats and now when they are together only 70 seats ? I have serious doubt on this survey results.

    Hi Mahi

In 2013 election result BJP=40, KJP=6, SreeRamulu=4. So total seats won by BJP+KJP+Ramulu= 50 seats only.
As per the survey this time they will get at least 70 seats. So this survey is true and Congress will win in majority and form the government.

The Election commison has not even announced date paid media is doing secret work for BJP. Few months ago Amit shah has outsourced PR company and conducted survey. Based on the report he has given full charge to former CM Yeddyurappa despite his corruption charges. Back to back surveys of media two months ahead to the elections is itself is suspicious.
When BJPs paid media doing the survey, PM Modi's government has been transferred more than 500 IB officers have been shunted out across the country. Several officers of IB, Tamil Nadu unit have also been transferred to Karnataka and vice versa. This move is similar to the Gujarat assembly elections IB sources as saying that the BJP-led central government was not happy with the intelligence gathered by the IB officers in the Gujarat assembly polls, which say the saffron party’s tally reduce significantly.
This mass transfers of Tamil officers in Karnataka is the step to gather pre poll strategy of the BJP to find the weakness of the CM Siddaramaiah government who are directly reporting to the Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
These surveys are nothing but hogwash of the BJPs paid media.
What Congress and JD'S need to worry about is 'Salami Fraud' through EVM at booth levels were the winning margin is very low. In Gujarat, there were over 16 seats, where the victory margins were less than 3,000 votes. A vote transfer of even half a percent in a constituency of two lakh voters could result in a victory of a candidate who was originally trailing by 2000 votes. Such minimalistic vote transfer could go undetected because the winner could always use power to block any efforts for rigorous verifications.
‘Salami Fraud’ is a term used to explain numerous large-scale and organised bank robbery through insidious hidden software that takes away tiny small pennies from millions of accounts to siphon off huge amount of money.
In Gujarat BJP won just managed by 7 seats. Most of the EVM votes are transferred to NOTA.

Opposition parties are in 'SALVAGE' mode. They just want to reduce the number of seats of INC to less than 100. So that they cannot wrest on power directly. The battle has already began. It's up-to to ruling party on how many seats they can hold tight.

    1) Coastal districts - Tough fight between Congress and BJP - May tilt in favour of BJP
    2) 28 seats in Bengaluru - Rural & Urban. A tilt of 5% votes will see swing of 10 seats either ways. As of now, all three MP seats in Urban held by BJP and 1 Rural by Congress. My money is on BJP to win 18+ within Bengaluru.
    3) Kodagu, Mysuru Urban will tell different story. The minority appeasement will be a big BACKLASH on Congress. BJP will sweep this region barring Chamundeshwari, that too is risky for Congress if BJP & JD(S) agree for a common candidate.
    4) DO NOT COUNT YOUR CHICKEN BEFORE THEY HATCH!
    5) Amit Shah & team will burn the midnight oil now to prove this survey wrong. Or who knows, he may floated this to C Fore to misguide Congress!!

The People of Karnataka are going to vote for congress mainly because of Chief Minister Sidramayya (siddu) and not because of Rahul Gandhi alone . In Karnataka CM Siddu commands greater respect and more popularity than Rahul Gandhi or Narendra Modi. Besides the sincere and effective Pro-people Works of Siddu since last five years, has influenced the life of poor people a lot. In short today among all the Chief Ministers of India, including BJP and other parties, Siddu has proved to be the Best CM. And also after Devaraj Urs Sidramayya is the most effective CM karnataka ever had. BJP has no leader of Siddu's stature who can do so much good work for the poor people.
Above all, during last visit of Modi to Karnataka Modi twisted the name of Sidramayya as Seeda-Rupayya and made fun of his name, which has angered the people of Karnataka as twisting a pure Kannada name and making fun of it by a Gujarati, has deeply hurt the pride of Kannadigas. Since Modi & Amit Shah both are Gujaratis, the hurt Kannadigas will teach a lesson to Gujjus this time.

BJP's internal Survey shows that = if Modi himself stands for CM of Karnataka and Amit shah as Jai Minister of Karnataka and Jaitley as Finance Minister of Karnataka, then only BJP will win. Because Chaddi-BJP voters love only non-kannadigas, but if Yaddy stands for CM then BJP will not get more than 60 seats. (Lol)

Sidramayya (Siddu) has done so much developmental work in Karnataka which Modi could not do even in 14 years as CM of Gujarat. Modi's Gujarat Model was just a publicity stunt whereas Siddu's Karnataka Development is a reality. Modi is a Feku but Siddu is honest. Siddu also comes from a very poor family of shepherds, but he has studied upto LLB-LLM and became successful Advocate, unlike fake degrees of 8 th class failed Modi.
