Bengaluru: Rajya Sabha polls - CM says no to nomination of Rahul Gandhi aide Sam Pitroda

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Mar 7: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah has reportedly rejected the names of Sam Pitroda, who has been close to the Gandhi family since Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister, and All India Congress general secretary, Janardan Dwivedi, to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. It is said that he has insisted that the nominations should be citizens of Karnataka.

He expressed his opinion during his meeting with Congress national president, Rahul Gandhi, during the meeting with him on Tuesday. He also explained his view that during the election time, choice of candidates gains lot of significance and hence fielding of a Kannadiga is very important. He also said that fielding a person from outside the state might give wrong signal to the people.

Election for four Rajya Sabha seats will be held in Karnataka on March 23. While Congress can comfortably elect two candidates, BJP can choose one. For the other seat, JD(S) and Congress, who are at loggerheads now, may fight it out.

It is said that former Lok Sabha speaker, Meira Kumar, is also an aspirant to get elected to Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. But Siddaramaiah's tough stance on nominating a person from the state has put paid to her ambitions too, it is reported.

Siddu is sensible. Sensible enough to be Congress President. Congress lost a chance by losing Nitishkumar. at least Congressmen realise the reality now and act to Save the grand old party.

Sam Pitroda is a good choice. He is a person who sacrificed his lucrative job in the US and came to serve in India at the invitation of the then PM Late Rajiv Gandhi. But considering the election year in Karnataka and the message people are expecting by such nominations it is better to consider his candidature later.

Its high time that Congress brings out young talents to man stream. Rahul only spends time in talking about BJP all the time. The youngsters are fed up with listening to same stories again and again. Let it be some thing new, Let there be a change in politics for better tomorrow. Enough is enough talking/discussing/acting on religion, cast creed, etc etc. The youth of this country not interested in listening to history or stories anymore. Let there be progressive leadership, let there be a difference. Let us keep Indians together in order to keep India safe both inside and outside. Jai Hind.

This along with new developments around the state and cutting ribbons do look like new strategy of Congress. Can anyone believe that CM won't accept nomination of RG? According to my analysis & by looking at the face of Yeddiyurappa, it looks like even BJP wants Siddaramiah govt., to come back to power in Karnataka. All the conferences are just for name sake.

Most likely the gentleman is an American green card holder, if not a citizen.

Ensure that all selected persons are not citizens of other countries. If there is an issue, they will run away with no chance of extraditing them.

Because of Sam Pitroda's selfless contribution to telecom industry, Karnataka become a world class IT hub. He owns several patents in technology sector. US has undermined his C-Dot technology and now the telecom companies in US are regretting. Without the C-Dot, it would have not possible for a Coolie worker to carry a cell phone in India today.
For me, Sam is an unsung hero and he deserve to be a CM of Karnataka.

Sidda is preparing to accept CONgress is not coming to power again...so it does not matter what Rahul will do after elections...

This Sam Pitroda is a telecom Specialist, worked and lived in US for long time...and a Rajiv/Sonia kitchen cabinet member like Oscar and Vidhwaan Moily....if this news is true for sure Sidda will not be made CM if CONgress comes to power....Perhaps Sidda knows this and does not care to obey High Command any more...

In Hathill's words...'Sidda is Cooking a Snook with Rahul/Sonia'...late D Devraj Urs did this with Indira in 1979 and failed...lets see where Sidda stands in 2018!!!...

    Mosaralli Kallu... Mosaralli Kallu...

Can you ask Modi to replace Mota-Bhai with a Kannadiga ?

Now, you are not telling me that CM is speaking in English in the House - are you ?

Look gentleman, you should be proud that our CM can speak English fluently, unlike the Tamil whose example you gave. Press, comprises of representatives of national channels. If he speaks in Kannada its sufficient for Karnataka, rest of the nation needs translation. Unlike your Nalinanna whom I never heard speaking in even Hindi, leave alone English.

Why you r jealous about Nalin ? He even spoke in Kannada in LS .regarding CMs of Andhra,TN and Kerala always speak in their State official language that doesn't mean they can't speak in English while facing press (yesterday did you notice Naidu speech ?)
Where was his Kannada "Prema " when he was requesting dodamma/pappu to fight election from KARNATKA ?
    All dombarata and nautanki

This shows that Karnataka has a Strong & a capable leader, we have in Karnataka a Leader par Excellence. Our beloved chief minister commands respect & he is a capable leader . He is the final decision maker & he does this with the concurrence of all his collegues in the state. Congress is going to have a thumping Majority under his capable Leadership & we shall see Karnataka Flourish. B.J.P is a hopelessly divided house , no agenda, squabbles among themselves , no vision, past performance was a terrible tragedy , with 3 chief ministers who were clueless in Administration
