Mangaluru records highest temperature in state

Mangaluru, Feb 23: During the 24-hour period ending 8.30 am on Thursday February 22, Panambur in city registered highest temperature of 36.3 degree celsius in the state.

Coastal Karnataka, which enjoyed reasonably good weather during winter, had been experiencing rise in day temperature since the last some days. The temperature in the coast had stood at 35.2 degree celsius on Tuesday, which rose to 36.3 on Wednesday. This is higher by three to four degrees as against average temperature prevailing here.

Ballari with 36 degree celsius was close behind Panambur. The temperature recorded at the international airport in the city stood at 35.2 degree celsius.

Experts attribute this change to lack of strong wind from the direction of the sea. Sea breeze gained momentum since Thursday evening and therefore, the temperature is to go down. The meteorological department at Begaluru in the meanwhile said that no rainfall is expected shortly.

    Certainly quantity of crude oil will be more than the quantity of drinking water in our dam this summer...! While majority are busy debating on which political party should get credit, I wonder what has our Mangalore benefited from this? Rising heat, increased risk from this massive oil reserve, vast de-forestation, no will to re-plant tress nor to increase green cover, affordable health care beyond reach of the poor and needy. Rampant corruption, fast eroding cost line, Malaria and dengue for free, drinking water used by refineries, sand mining that destroyed our echo system, divided by communal forces, every passing day we Mangalorean are losing our identity...! Let’s focus on these basic but most important causes. To address these let’s not wait for smart city charter as this is just another marketing gimmick to swindle money for business men and politicians. Wake by Mangalorean’s.! Hold politicians and bureaucrats accountable for these causes and vote wisely in the upcoming elections. Else do not hesitate to press the last but the most important button on the EVM. The NOTA..!

    concrete jungle,deforestation in then name of developemnt,unnecessary high rise apartments , increase in number malls whcih are not needed to small cities like mangalore are the reason for the increase in temparature.

    To make small City Big...we need to build more buildings to accommodate business o r commercials or people like you move to other cities telling there is no opportunities here...well temperature rise is a common scenario in a coastal cities like mangalore or Mumbai

    Joyson Kadri,not only deforesting,the cause,just see how many diesel autos,rikshas,lkws are running around,and producing more than carbon monoxyde.One cannt breath properly in city.No trees around,only buildings.Electrosmog kills us.Everywhere weather has changed.Come to us .Next week we will be having minus degree temperature around twelve to fifteen degree.-Fedup of rain and floods.God knows how sommer will be.

    Development at the cost of the Nature. Bangalore is ruined now it is Mangalore's turn. Slowly Villa's or Independent house culture is over taken by Apartment culture. Concrete jungle has eaten away our green Jungle. Planting thousands of sapling every vanamothsava day has become a fashion. Entire Mangalore City has how many Gardens ?? Pooor and Middle income group people suffer. Rich and higher income group people enjoy AC. So what is the solution ??

    90% of green cover, lungs of the city, have been destroyed by land mafia is responsible for this! Imagine what heat people will have to face in the ensuing summer along with water shortage! Reminds of the horrible condition of Delhi from where many people r running away!

    When people opposed the mega polluting industries like thermal power plants some of our educated people called them anti development groups. Today we are reaping the fruits of this foolishness. The owners of these megaprojects live far away and we are inhaling the ash ,our kids and older folks are suffering from lung problems and temperatures are rising every year....all for few jobs

    With the greenery around this city vanishing and turning it into a concrete jungle , number of private vehicles have increased a lot,added to that the airconditioners all recipe for hot weather . Then we dig borewells ,and the water is getting deeper ....soon this is followed by water scarcity ,welcome to the summer months .
