Assembly passes Bill for establishment of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University

Bengaluru, Feb 21: The Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill for enabling the establishment of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara University.

Another bill for enabling the establishment of the Khwaja Bandenawaz University was also passed by the House.

The objective of passing the two bills is for increasing enrolment in higher education in the State.

Karnataka already has 22 private universities of which 18 have been functioning, said Higher Education Minister Basavaraja Rayareddy while introducing the bills for consideration.

The minister explained that Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Educational Society, Ujire, Dakshina Kannada, would be establishing university. It would offer a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.

The Khwaja Bandenawaz Educational Society, Kalaburagi, would establish the University to impart teaching, training, consultancy, research and development in science, social science, management and other subjects.

The Assembly also passed the Karnataka Aadhaar (Targetted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Bill,

The Bill envisages correcting identification of targeted beneficiaries for delivery of various subsidies, benefits and services, grants and wages and other social benefit schemes for the effective implementation of social benefit schemes.

It also aims to ensure subsidies, benefits and services reach to the intended beneficiaries; linking the use of Aadhaar identification for delivery of various subsidies and benefits; and ensuring good governance.

The Central government has already passed the Aadhaar Bill and it becomes an Act.
