Bengaluru: Congress MLA N A Haris tenders apology in Assembly for son's crime

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Feb 20: In a bid to contain the embarrassment to the ruling Congress party ahead of the coming assembly elections, Congress MLA from Shantinagar N A Harris tendered an apology in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Tuesday for his son, Mohammed Nalapad Harris, assaulting a youth at a restaurant in UB city in Bengaluru, who has since surrendered before the police and is in police custody since Monday.

Clarifying his stance on the issue, Harris, said: "I am pained by the incident of assaulting case involving my son. Circumstances sometimes not in our hands leads to such incidents. My apology to the House as well to the people and media persons."

Media persons covering arrest of Mohammed Nalapad Haris on Monday were attacked by supporters of Nalapad Haris and some camermen were injured in the melee.

Though the incident should not have occurred, it has blown out of proportion in the media since elections are nearing in the State, the Congress MLA said.

"The law will take its own course of action and I will not interfere in the matter,’’ the MLA said after a reply on the debate by Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy.

Nalapad, who was the Karnataka Youth Congress general secretary, was expelled from the party for six years.
Earlier, BJP Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar accused the State Government of supporting "Goonda Raj culture" in the state by not taking prevention actions.

Shettar said Congress legislator from Hungund Vijay Kashappanavar has been booked for assaulting two police constables at the upmarket Skye Bar and Pub located at the UB city in Bangalore in 2014.

Incidents are repeating in the same building, he claimed.

The Home Minister rebutted Shettar’s allegations and said one cannot describe the State as "Goonda Raj" just because of one or two incidents.

The crime rate in the state was much lower compared to the previous BJP government in the State or the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, he said.

If MLA cant control his own son, what good can do to the public.

Anyone does not become bad in a vacuum. He(MLA`s son) is grown up thinking that he can do whatever he wants and nobody can touch him.

    Being_mangalorean,

My statement is inspired by no one. Definetly not by any pathetic political group. I would have said the same if he was from BJP.

I believe that i have been equally critical of both major political parties.

Dev Kumar @ mangalore, violence is the only weapon of a disgrunted opposition and it is so ample clear that the opposition always creates a lot of obstacles to win some brownie points. Take for instance the BJP president, he bellows only hate and does not find any thing good in the ruling party. Some people can really fool everyone all the time.

MLA showed good gesture by apologing. But what will happen to all the effort put by congress and its supporters if congress losses? Do you think they will vote congress next time? Remember what was Kapil Sibal role in Gujarat Election?

It is nothing but digging its own grave.

Although so many ministers sons in UP ,MP ,Rajasthan etc are daily attacking normal citizens ,but i never heard or saw in any news their fathers seeking apology in assembly or anywhere in public. This is what congress does.Treats everyone equally.

Never categorise ,never favour rich business man and help them flee with loot items.

Never threaten or pressurise media to hide the truth unlike BJP

No he may not be ,but to apologise in public for a famous personality,he should keep his 100%ego buried down deep earth.
He did apologize for his son's mistake which rarely any politician does.I don't support him as he didn't teach manners to his son.He should have made his son a responsible citizen.I am only saying on morality grounds.Be it any politicians ,they
should accept their mistake rather than misleading public or going in denial mode.
