Bengaluru: Students donning degree robes sell pakodas near Modi's rally venue

Bengaluru, Feb 4 (PTI): A group of college students, donning degree robes and selling 'pakodas' to passers-by in a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks over job creation, were today whisked away by the police, hours before the PM's rally here.

The students appeared near the Mehkri Circle, a few metres away from Palace Ground where Modi is scheduled to address the rally, in protest against his recent remarks linking pakoda (snack) selling and job creation.

On being asked about inadequate job creation in the last four years in a recent interview to a news channel, the prime minister had said that a person selling pakodas outside their (channel's) television studio and earning Rs 200 a day should also be perceived as 'employed'.

The young students sold 'Modi Pakodas', 'Amit Shah Pakoda' and 'Dr Yeddy Pakodas', a reference to Karnataka BJP chief Yeddyurappa, to those passing by, including the BJP workers and visitors on their way to the rally.

The police later removed the degree robes of the protesting students and took them into custody.

When Congress expelled leader Mani Shankar Aiyar made comment BJP made 'Chai pe charcha' their main poll plank. Now four years into ruling is over we can only hear 'Charcha' on 'Mann ki baat'. In the Morning PM ki 'Charcha' , in the evening his breaking news anchors 'Charcha'.
After all knowledge of 'Chaiwala' is confined to 'Pakoda' only. India has really miss world's highest educated former PM Manmohan Singh.
Skill India PM Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently asserted that a person earning Rs 200 a day by selling pakoras is also employed. In his maiden speech in the Rajya Sabha, BJP president Amit Shah said it was better to sell 'pakoras' than to be unemployed.
If the nation only pakora in roadside stalls selling 'Pakoras' what is the need of courty aspiring for 'Digital India'?
This reminds me comedy scene from 1972 Bollywood movie Bombay To Goa Comedy Scenes on Pakoda acted by Mehmood & Mukri.
Now it seems like the nation is run by another comedy actors Modi and Amit on 'Pakora'. Let us make part two Bombay to Goa with new title 'Delhi to Gujarat Bullet Train ki Savari with Pakora'.

Our PM Modi is very very great and unique. None should forget that 60 crore indian selected Modi as their darling PM who has raised them from poverty to upper level. India is now the 3rd richest country in the world. You may get daily news of few people dying because of hunger or poverty. This is not a big issue and none should get worried about it. In 600 crore population death of few people is negligible.

After watching Pakoda interview ,our degree holders hurt so badly. It was not perfect to compare a young doctor/ engineer/or any graduate with Pakoda seller. It's condemned. ...but if you take his statement in positive angle, you can be a master. ...! Start your own business establishment, expend it to your city, next to state capital, then dirdirectly to Delhi . Let Modi teste your Pakoda, charge him tightly with GST. ..! If you will you can open food chain outlets through out the country. Just think ....! Woodlands Hotel groups, MTR groups . now they are the masters in their speciality. Positive mental attitude ...!

Instead of doing Congress as worst or BJP worst - honest educated people let us debate the following: a) Is selling pakoda better? Are unemployed youth irrespective of their qualifications need to do such business? b) Regarding selling pakodas outside - Is it legal to sell things outside without a proper business registration, payment etc? Is it safe for people to eat outside food? Does govt encourage such things? If youth start selling pakoda kind of things in open - Can India be a developed country ever? c) increasing taxes and GST - Taxes are given away to poor by BJP. Where is the proof and statistics. What a shameful statement and a big lie? 2 lakh crores are given to banks for NPAs in just 6 months in 2017. Is our tax payer money is FM's or BJP's own money? We voters do not have any say? Why a bill is not introduced in parliament and seek the approval before throwing money to Banks who gave loans to crooks and who did not repay the loans

    Mr. Pipson,

Do you know the background of selling Pakodas by the graduates ? Its to mock what Mr. Modi said a day before, upon questioning about failure to create jobs under 'Make in India' scheme. Modi said to the journalist that a pakoda seller outside making Rs. 200/- a day is a job by itself. Irony is that there are so many educated youngsters in India, do they have to sell Pakodas for a living ? Question asked at him was what about his electoral promise to citizens. About creating jobs for the youth that the Congress wasn't able to do in 70 years of its rule.

Hence all this drama to inform the PM that the youth in Karnataka have found employment in selling Pakodas.

It's not government's job to provide employment to people. Government should only create an atmosphere which is conducive to entrepreneurship. The private sector should create jobs and government should keep away from changing everyone's diapers.

These people who are complaining about lack of jobs seem to have a sense of entitlement that since they have degrees it is their automatic right to get a job. Life does not work that way. For a willing person job comes looking for him. They are looking in the wrong places. Election rallies are not the place for job aspirants. Those rallies are meant for lazy people who want shortcut in life.

    Sri,

Then, when somebody is carrying beef that is available in the market, why it is assumed cow-meat and he is lynched ? Why your buffalo meat theory does not work out there ?

31% of the gullible electorate got hypnotized by the totally baseless Modi rhetoric wearing different headgear every day like a street magician made them vote, and the whole nation is suffering so seriously with economic crash and anarchy.

Please tell me - those who completed their studies in the past four years have got employment under Modi rule ? If the great, 56" chest bearer, creator of 'Make in India' has not been successful in his schemes, you should leave people to their satisfaction of earlier 70 years too.

Because, under BJP rule, cost of everything is sky-rocketed than coming down. GST is the bigger hole in people's pocket besides unemployment or escalating fuel prices !

    Rajesh,

Just yesterday I asked for an invoice to ensure that they will take back the items I bought if they will prove malfunctioning, the cost of the items shot to Rs. 1,500/- which without bill was Rs. 1,200/-

A Kg of Banana are Rs. 70/- that was Rs. 20/- four years' back. Do you want me to list out all items here ?

You forgot tomato? At times was selling at 100 during UPA times.. and now it is barely 10. .. LOL

I specifically said be true to yourself .. because I know Dal, rice, wheat, species, most friuits are almost flat.. and prices do raise over a period.. a rise of 5-10% is normal.
But you don’t seem to understand what is fair comparision. .for you one aberration of banana or coconut is fair enough to blame Modi.. good.. go on with that.. I have sympathy on such though process thou

Sri-elder, Tell Modi Govt. to bring a bill in the parliament, to restrict strictly the age limit not exceeding 60 years of age to contest election for MP & MLAs, so that let some of our young people get elected, instead of old people contesting even at the age of 90 years, thus denying the chance for young people.
