Liverpool shocked by bottom-placed Swansea

London, Jan 23 (IANS): Swansea City shocked Liverpool 1-0 at home to earn valuable three points in their battle for English Premier League (EPL) survival.

Alfie Mawson scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute when he swept home following Sam Clucas' corner on Monday, reports Xinhua news agency.

The Reds stepped up their offence but failed to turn their numerous chances into goals, ending their 18-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Despite the loss, Liverpool stayed fourth on the league standings, three points behind third-placed Chelsea.

Swansea remain at the bottom of the table but are tied on 20 points with West Bromwich Albion, moving within three points of safety.
