Qatar files new complaint to UN over UAE violation of airspace

Doha, Jan 14 (IANS): Qatar has filed new complaint to the UN Security Council over a second United Arab Emirates (UAE) military fighter jet which violated its airspace, Qatar News Agency reported on Saturday.

The UAE fighter jet was travelling from the UAE to Bahrain on January 3, and flew over Qatar's special economic zone "without prior authorization," Xinhua reported.

Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the repetition of the incident was a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Qatar, as well as a flagrant violation of the provisions of international law.

On Friday, Qatar has filed a complaint to the UNSC after a UAE military aircraft violated its airspace on Dec. 21 last year.

The complaint was submitted by Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al Thani, Qatar's ambassador to the UN.

Shortly after, the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Gargash strongly denied the first accusation, saying it was "incorrect."

In June 2017, four Arab nations including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt imposed a trade and diplomatic siege on Qatar, accusing Doha of destabilizing the region with its support for extremism.

Qatar has strongly denied the accusations.

UAE is seen with high regards by all the nations. They also know that UAE is never provocative. Qatar should have understood this before filing a false complaint.
