Udupi, Dec 31: A review meeting of developments of various projects like Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, ZP roads, PWD roads, Municipality, NH, Port and other departments, was held at Taluk Panchayat auditorium, Udupi on Saturday, December 30.

Presiding over the meeting, District-in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj said the Manipal – Parkala road patch work should start immediately.

An engineer said that the state government has released Rs 30 lakhs and National Highway department has released another Rs 30 lakhs for the road repair. The Parkala road patch work will get commence on January 4 and will be completed within a week.

Minister Pramod has also sent a proposal to the government to sanction Rs 2 crore under special grant for development works.

To widen Karavali junction-Manipal - Parkala as four lane road, a proposal has been sent to the government. It is estimated that the project will cost Rs 87 crore, said an engineer.

Another PWD engineer said, they did not add Malpe harbour to Adi-Udupi road in the first phase of the plan, due to shortage of grants. There is a problem of land acquisition. Estimation was done and DPR has been approved.

Pramod Madhwaraj took the engineer to task and said, “Malpe-Adi Udupi road work should be done on priority, because Malpe is a commercially active area and a tourist spot. If there is feasibility, the plan should be added to first phase”.

There are 11 roads construction works pending under ‘Namma Grama, Namma Raste’. The connecting bridge Ammunje – Kolagiri and Perampalli was washed away due to heavy rain. The bridge work should be completed by February 15, 2018. The revised estimation report should be sent to the government, said Madhwaraj.

The Minister asked the engineers to complete all pending works. He set January 10 as the deadline to complete all road construction work, because Palimaru Paryaya will be held.

The work of Kalsanka Bridge will start after Palimaru Paryaya at a cost of Rs 75 lakhs, he revealed.

Some of the engineers complained about poor performance of contractors and delay in works.

Minister Pramod addressing the engineers said “why don’t you take action against them though having power in hand. Such contractors should be blacklisted. No one is above the government; no one should take the government rules very lightly. By January 10 all road works of 35 wards should be completed”.

Around 5358 different construction works costing over Rs 818.47 crores are in progress.

There were total 4,481 construction works and were completed at a cost of Rs 515 crore from 2013-14 to 2017-18 year. There are 453 proposed works and 424 projects approved by the government, and the work is yet to start.

Various departmental engineers were present.
