Colva: Francisco Pereira discharged in 9th desecration case


Colva, Dec 22 (TOI): Francisco Pereira alias Boy, the prime accused in the 2016-17 serial desecration cases, was discharged yet again by a local court on Thursday. This is his 9th discharge in as many cases. Chief judicial magistrate Kalpana Gawas discharged Pereira from three cases.

Police say that on March 3, 2016, Pereira desecrated an idol and ghumti of Lord Brahma, and a cross at Gudi-Paroda. Earlier, on October 4, 2014, he damaged a religious structure and a cross at Paroda. On July 4, 2017, police say he desecrated a Holy Cross at Ralloy-Torrem in Curtorim by using a hammer.

On July 3, 2017, JMFC Ashwini Kandolkar discharged Pereira from a case filed against him by the Maina-Curtorim police for desecration of a cross and statue of Mother Mary.

Then, last month, he was discharged in four cases, and on December 12, he was discharged in yet another.
