Mangaluru: Govt official Miranda has property in excess of known sources of income - ACB

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 15: Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials have said that prima facie, they have found that assistant director of agriculture at Bantwal, Francis Paul Miranda, is in possession of property in excess of his known sources of income. The officials had raided the residence and office of Miranda on Wednesday December 13.

The officials had conducted raid on Miranda from 5.30 am to late night on Wednesday. They arrived at the value of assets on Thursday.

The officials have found fixed deposits worth Rs 79 lac, Rs 10,40,000 in cash, farm house worth Rs 22 lac, house valued at Rs 25 lac at Pakshikere, agricultural machinery worth Rs 25 lac, flat worth Rs 29 lac at Manipal, 300 grams gold jewellery, car worth Rs 20 lac, another car valued at seven lac rupees, household equipment worth Rs 11 lac, and over a hundred insurance policies. Out of 12 acre land the official owns, areca and coconut have been grown in six acres, and the remaining land is left barren.

The ACB officials said that the official had income over and above what is shown in records. "If he fails to provide proper books of accounts to prove about the legitimacy of his income and assets, we can confirm that this is illegally acquired. We have given him enough time to produce documentary evidences. We will move against him only if it is confirmed that he is in possession of illegal property," they added.

The officials said that Miranda and his family members were cooperative during the investigation. It is said that some people who grew suspicious after Miranda recently bought a car worth Rs 20 lac, complained to ACB, who in turn, conducted the raids.

It's very sad that India's hard-earned freedom, for which our country's freedom fighters and founding fathers endured so much hardship and many among them sacrificed their lives for, is being misused by a few greedy persons (by forming a nexus & misutilizing their powers) to (illegally) enrich themselves, at the cost of the vast majority.

It is high time civil society organizes itself to oppose all such looting of public funds/wealth. There are enough and more of laws to deal with such persons, but sadly, these are not being enforced. It's high time we become more aware and vocal, in our own interests.

Based on the amount described by the official not much becze this man has 3 months to retire and life time savings and investment should be more than that. This is called harrassmet based on religious discrimination by someone to make this man guilty of life time services to the department. Someone is trying to revenge and jealousy is the factor. Sad

Just look at the picture of the house. Does this show a man who has amassed huge amount of wealth? And also look at the list that the ACB has provided. Does all of this look like more than a normal middle class person possesses these days? He is from Pakshikere, so might have some land there and a house he inherited. Morevoer, if somebody bought a house ten or twenty years ago for a few lakhs, now it is worth crores. It looks like the ACB has walked into a trap by some jealous people, probably supported by some politicians. Just check on any official who is known to be corrupt, and you will see crores of assets. And 300 grams of gold for a middle class family is out of the ordinary? Also, did he have any loans that he used for some of the assets?

And see how the ACB is now struggling to put a bold front by saying that they will let him show the source of income. I am sure they are more than embarrassed as the total they have estimated is only little more than one crore. Don't these officials know that a decent flat in DK these days costs a crore or more? And look at the accompanying picture with scores of police! Just think how much resources have been wasted in this wild goose chase rather than going after real corrupt people who have amassed tens and hundreds of crores of assets. Before anybody jumps up and down about corruption, ill gotten wealth etc. in this case, I urge them to estimate their own wealth and see how it will compare to the figure given by ACB.

By the description of these properties & money of a person it doesn't seem to be through corrupt means as he is about to retire & in a life time one can invest & prosper to this level without corruption, unlike our politicians who triple or more times accumulate their properties & monies in a single year of their rule.
This case seems to be a vendetta by someone whom he didn't help with or without bribe an illegal favor.
Unless his assets are not through his legacy or legal means nothing will be achieved in recovering whatever money(value) is assumed to be in this raid.

Do you have any idea about DK? I do not know about 100 insurance policies and whether the number is correctly quoted. Also, how much they are worth? If they are worth a lot of money, then the ACB would have been loudly crowing about that. But having some lakhs in cash is not only unusual, but prudent as well, as God forbid, if somebody has a heart attack in the family (or a serious accident) and when that person is taken to the hospital , the first thing they want in (most of them) is a deposit of a couple of lakhs. So only a stupid person will keep no cash in his house.

Read the news report again that how they became suspicious on he newly buying a car worth 20 lacs when already owning one worth 7 lacs n my dear 10 lacs cash in the house might be peanuts for u n him, but for a middle class person with no access to easy money it is a big amount boss! Moreover the pic is of his workplace, see minutely!! Looks like ur getting personally agitated for whatever reason! Mind u 85% of our population is struggling to make both ends meet, forget 10 lacs cash n 20 lacs car!!

Corrupts looting the wealth, land of the public & living a lavish lifestyle, what a shame. I don't even have a cent of land or a flat in my name or my family name till now & buying anything at present is just impossible.
This is our Country policy... In this country all the land swallowed by around 15% of the population, Rest 85% are living in rented houses or in Flats or on Footpaths or Railway stations, bus stations, under the flyover etc..etc.. working for landlords & living in their own farm huts..etc..etc...
God will not leave those who loot the public wealth unpunished. Only God can punish, all other justice systems are totally corrupt in the country starting from Top Court to lower Courts, Judges, Lawyers, Police, all other government authorities are totally corrupt.

There should be no mercy for corrupt officials. This applies to politicians as well. If ACB initiates action on all corrupt, I appreciate. If it selects only some, then ACB has ulterior motives. Corrupt affiliated to any politicial party should not be spared. Majority of our politicians and public servants got illgotten wealth.
