BJP to blame for unrest in coastal Karnataka: Home minister Reddy

Bengaluru, Dec 12 (IANS): In the wake of BJP protests over the death of a young man, Karnataka Home Minister R. Ramalinga Reddy on Tuesday blamed the opposition party for disturbing peace in the coastal region of the southern state.

"The BJP's state leaders are trying to provoke violence in the coastal towns (Kumta, Honnavar and Sirsi) on instructions from party President Amit Shah," Reddy told reporters here following protest rallies in the region over the death of an 18-year-old youth last week.

"As assembly elections in Karnataka are due in early 2018, the BJP is fomenting trouble to polarise people and play vote-bank politics. We will not allow them to succeed and deal firmly with trouble-makers," Reddy said.

Defying ban orders and breaking barricades, about 600 Bharatiya Janata Party supporters staged protests at Sirsi in Uttara Kannada district.

They demanded a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the "unnatural" death of Paresh Mesta, whose mutilated body was found floating in a lake on the outskirts of Honnavar, about 490 km northwest of Bengaluru.

Police caned protesters and took about 200 of them into preventive custody for violating a ban order under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code and for throwing stones at them and torching two-wheelers.

On the BJP's demand for a NIA probe, Reddy said the state government was waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of Mesta's death though an interim report from the Manipal hospital had ruled out foul play.

Reddy referred to a video clipping of the BJP's Lok Sabha lawmaker from Mysuru Vijaya Simha in which he allegedly provoked BJP cadres to disrupt law and order.

"We will take action against all those, including BJP leaders, who have been spreading lies on the social media about Mesta's death," the Minister added.

Following the young man's death, the state BJP had alleged that Mesta was "murdered by jihadists (extremists)".

In Bengaluru, the BJP's state unit leaders submitted a memorandum to Governor Vajubhai R. Vala, demanding a NIA probe.

"As Mesta was tortured and murdered by jihadists (extremists), we demand a NIA probe into the heinous crime against Hindu activists, including Mesta," said the memorandum signed, among others, by BJP lawmakers K.S. Eshwarappa and Shobha Karandlaje.

I always see Congress blaming BJP and vice varsa. Congress was saying all problems are because of BJP. My question to Congress leaders like Ramanath Rai and Reddy is why did they not arrest Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat?? Ramantha Rai openly said if he elected in the last election he will put Bhat behind bars. What happened? Why he didn't arrest him?? These people domt have the guts. They only talk. This is what I don't like. Bhat was openly saying let Congress out me behind bars. Ramanath Rai knew very clearly that if he put him behind bars he will come out of the jail within one day and he will be more powerfull. The situation is now Ramanth Rai is having his own doubts if he can win the election from Bantwal. First of all let us not blame anybody. Congress should have the guts to meet BJP leaders and vice varsa and see to that any communal issues solved amicably so that it will not ignite the people. This they don't do. Congress blame BJP and vice varsa. There are many issues raging in our Coastal Karnataka which has to be solved which no politicians are interested. There are many Jobless Youths roaming. I have not seen any Politicians fighting for jobs in Copmanies for our Youths, Kannadigas must get jobs in Mangalore Central (Railways). These initiation are not done at all. See the situation of Pumpwell flyover. All Politicians united must fight for the early completion of the flyover. I don't see this initiation. Pls Pls help us solve basic issues like better road, early completion of flyovers in Pumpwell, flyover in Nanthoor etc etc.

Its 4 months now and still the HM, Law and order have no clue . As per HM in Sept they were to be arrested in 2 weeks and had full clues. Incompetent people.

See the killings as murder of humanity and not from a religious point of view.

Rajasthan Murder was inhumane so was this. untill we keep our religious points at bay we will never succeed over this evil.

How well analysis of the murder done by the BJP investigation cell. If this murder by some unknown person is to be termed as a jihadist murder, why was the BJP investigation cell silent for the cold blooded and live murder done in Rajasthan. I am sure that they must e aware of the murder as it was live and claimed by the murderer that he did it for Hindutva. What does BJP want in this wonderful country of ours. It is surprising that all these jihadists murders occur during the preelection period. BJP, do u think we the general public are so foolish and ignorant to believe all you vomit. Please dont be the frog in the well and grow out of your spectrum of so called Hindutva, which is nothing but your politics of seat counting. Already the country is going to the dogs financially and please at least let the citizens stay in peace to live this laborious life due to your seat politics and dwindling economy.
